Job description

Position Overview

The Diesel & CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment powered by diesel and CNG engines. This position ensures that fleet vehicles and machinery operate safely and efficiently, supporting the organization's operational needs. This is a MID Shift position.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform routine maintenance and scheduled service on diesel and CNG vehicles and equipment.

· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.

· Repair and replace defective parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and fuel systems.

· Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

· Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all repairs and maintenance performed.

· Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform field repairs as necessary.

· Collaborate with fleet managers and other mechanics to prioritize repairs and schedule service.

· Order and inventory parts, supplies, and lubricants required for maintenance and repairs.

· Stay current with new technologies and procedures related to diesel and CNG engines.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in automotive or diesel

technology preferred.

· Minimum of 2 years experience in diesel and/or CNG equipment maintenance and repair.

· Valid commercial driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL A or B) required.

· Certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) in diesel engines or CNG systems are a plus.

· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.

· Physical ability to lift heavy components, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.

Skills and Competencies

· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

· Proficiency with hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and computerized maintenance systems.

· Knowledge of diesel and CNG engine operation, fuel systems, emissions controls, and safety standards.

· Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

· Effective communication skills for interacting with team members and supervisors.

· Organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and prioritizing repairs.
