Familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, version control systems, and sometimes certifications in these platforms are commonly required. Job description

Rockstar Games is seeking a highly skilled and automation-driven Senior Build & Release Engineer to join our Online Services Team in Andover, Massachusetts. As a global leader in the creation of world‑class entertainment experiences, Rockstar Games relies on a seamless, robust infrastructure to deliver high‑quality client‑facing software and services to millions of players worldwide.

In this role, you will be part of a passionate development group focused on growing and maintaining the technology platform that powers our online titles. You will design, implement, and optimize the CI/CD pipelines that make fast, safe, and repeatable software delivery possible across all environments. If you are an engineer who thrives in a highly motivated, inclusive environment and has a passion for building the “engine” that drives software deployment, we want to hear from you.

Executive Role Summary: Senior Build & Release Engineer Compensation and Benefits Profile

Rockstar Games offers a competitive total compensation package that recognizes the technical complexity and critical nature of build engineering in the AAA gaming sector. Annual compensation ranges from $131,400 to $151,800, with annual bonus and equity awards.

Core Responsibilities
  • CI/CD Pipeline Design: Design and maintain continuous integration and deployment pipelines for internal tools and externally facing applications. You will ensure these systems are scalable and support multiple environments.
  • Automation Engineering: Drive the automation of deployment processes to minimize manual intervention and human error. You will be responsible for creating the scripts and tools that allow for “one‑click” or fully automated releases.
  • Environment Management: Oversee the management of various environments (Development, QA, Staging, Production) to ensure that all testing and development needs are met with consistent configurations.
  • Cross‑Studio Collaboration: Work closely with Rockstar technology teams across our worldwide studios. You will align on global standards and share best practices to improve the overall efficiency of our software delivery.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Collaborate with Developers, Operations, Security, and QA teams to support the creation of robust, high‑quality software. You will act as the technical consultant for release strategies.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all deployment processes, automation scripts, and infrastructure configurations to ensure knowledge redundancy.
The Professional Foundation

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate a deep understanding of configuration management and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

  • Experience: 5+ years of configuration management and engineering for web applications, ideally within an Agile development environment.
  • Build Tools: Expert‑level experience with automated build tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, or equivalent CI systems.
  • Programming Skills: Professional experience with an Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP) language, specifically C# or Java.
  • Containerization: Practical experience with container technologies, with a strong preference for Docker.
Technical Knowledge
  • Distributed Systems: A solid grasp of distributed systems architecture and infrastructure.
  • Release Management: Adept at managing complex software releases and multi‑platform deployments.
  • Source Control: Advanced proficiency in GitHub or Perforce.
  • Bug Tracking: Familiarity with software like Jira or similar tracking systems.
Desirable Pluses

While not required, the following skills will significantly enhance your application:

  • Branching Strategies: Experience defining and managing complex branch and merge strategies in high‑traffic repositories.
  • Frontend Knowledge: Familiarity with modern frontend technologies like React, NextJs, or Webpack.
  • Data Management: A working knowledge of SQL for database‑related deployment tasks.
Working at Rockstar Andover

Rockstar Andover is a key hub for our Online Services group. Working in our Andover studio means joining a community of highly motivated professionals who are dedicated to the “craft” of game development.

  • In‑Office Synergy: We believe that the high‑stakes nature of live services and build engineering benefits from the immediate collaboration and problem‑solving that happens in a studio environment.
  • Innovation & Experimentation: You will have the opportunity to experiment with new technologies and tools to solve some of the most complex deployment challenges in the industry.
  • Inclusive Environment: We foster a culture where every employee is valued and respected, providing a platform for you to do the best work of your career.
