Job description

The Hickory Foundation YMCA is looking for dynamic, hardworking and enthusiastic individuals who would like the opportunity to work with a team of people to make a positive difference in the life of children in the sports department at the Hickory Foundation YMCA. This individual would be responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, and execution of all programs offered in the sports department. Must be reliable and a positive role model and consistent with Christian mission and the policies set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley


  • Assist in planning, developing, and execution of all programs offered in the Sports Dept
  • Basic understanding of fiscal management and budget process
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications must be obtained (provided by the YMCA)
  • Must be able to supervise other sports staff, coaches and referees in a mature, respectful and professional manner
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills with volunteers, members, and parents
  • Assist in completion of game schedules for all sports
  • Help with obtaining sponsors for Annual Giving Campaign
  • Lead summer sports camps
  • Preparing coach/parent packets for teams in each sport
  • In charge of any printing of schedules or registration forms and possible delivery
  • In charge of marketing and displaying sports info within the Y branch
  • Communicate in a positive manner with coaches, refs, and participant’s families at all times
  • All YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment. This includes following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns or incidents immediately, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members

  • Must be 18 years of age, have high school diploma or GED
  • Must be Fun loving, kid focused, and hardworking
  • Possess a current NC driver’s license.
  • Previous experience and knowledge in the specific sports of soccer, baseball, flag football, volleyball, and basketball is preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be able to endure standing outside for long periods of time, and lifting up to 30lbs
