Job Description

We are seeking a Structural Designer to join our team in applying engineering skills to a variety of diverse and challenging projects for our Seattle office. The successful candidate will have zero to five years of experience in the design and drafting of structural systems for educational, residential, commercial, healthcare, industrial, and state/federal facilities.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Qualifications
  • Technical or Associate degree, equivalent technical school training, or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical/Professional expertise with zero to five years of structural design experience in a structural engineering environment.
  • Demonstration of verbal and written organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit are required. Proficiency with Revit is strongly preferred.

Expected annual salary of $68,000 - $85,000.

Required Responsibilities:

Prepare layouts; provide input for design proposals and drawings; and analyze and resolve design and production issues in areas such as Structural Systems.

Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and final construction drawings. Determine scale and prepare layouts for detailing.

Become familiar with accepted design/drafting methods and concepts, engineering and design principles, terminology, and construction materials.

Provide recommendations for design adaptations and modifications.

Under supervision, incorporate decision recommendations. Make decisions regarding design suitability using knowledge of specified product materials and production process.

Apply codes, identify alternatives and solutions to code exceptions, and devise new approaches to problems encountered.

Perform mathematical calculations using engineering formulas and analysis tools.

Become familiar with coordinating across a variety of building design disciplines, including architectural, mechanical, and electrical.

Represent the firm in a professional manner, enhancing client confidence and respect, and furthering relationships for the goal of repeat work or referrals. Clients should think of you highly enough to request you, specifically, for future work. Follow office and design procedures.

Ensure that your work is completed on time and within budget.

When opportunities arise, promote the opportunity for new work. Invite feedback on clients’ perception of your work. Be deliberate with your outreach and efforts to build relationships.

Proactively pursue continued education, training, certifications, and opportunities to network within our industry. Stay updated on code changes, industry trends, and technical tools that can be utilized in your work.

Necessary Abilities:

Under close supervision, work on a variety of projects as assigned by a Project Manager. Assist in calculations and details required for project delivery. Utilize familiarity with structural design and drafting practices and procedures, including design platforms and software.
