What would you do?

Position Summary/Objective: Responsibilities in the fast-paced environment include, but are not limited to, the following: working Timberwolves home games and preparing materials for the media, setting up and taking down the Timberwolves media section and media room, transcribing post-game quotes and distributing them to media and other projects as needed. Attendance at Timberwolves home games is required, and the job includes some weekend work. This will be a seasonal part-time role, through the season and potential playoffs.

We will start interviewing and hiring mid-August, and will make offers around mid-September.  The first full shift will be September 28th, training and orientation will follow.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions:

  1. Provide media and teams with statistical and press content.
  2. Participate in Timberwolves game-day in-arena media setup and take down.
  3. Assist with game-night media hospitality.
  4. Assist with any post-game events that may occur during Timberwolves home games.
  5. Transcribe home and visiting player/coach quotes and distribute to the working media.
  6. Facilitate daily clips distribution.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other:

  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  2. Polish and professionalism, demonstrated in high profile and high-pressure situations.

  5. Able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

 

Pay Rate: $17.00 an hour

Experience: Communications background, including at least one (1) year of Sports Public Relations, Journalism and/or sports information experience is preferred

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.


Supervisory Responsibility, if any: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel

Position may require to external events on an as-needed basis.

 

Work Environment

Work is generally sedentary in nature. The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. This job also operates in gymnasiums, the Timberwolves/Lynx practice facility and a professional sports arena, which include bleachers/steps.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone. Staff will occasionally ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse around the arena both on event days and non-event days. Staff will frequently move boxes and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

 

Travel  Position may require travel to external events.
