Position Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily manufacturing operations to ensure furniture products are produced safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to established quality standards. This position leads production employees and supervisors, coordinates labor and material requirements, monitors workflow, and works closely with management to meet production and customer delivery goals.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with strong organizational, problem-solving, and people-management skills and experience managing production in a furniture, upholstery, millwork, or related manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Plan, organize, and manage daily production activities to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.

· Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors, cutters, seamstress, assemblers, finishers, upholsterers, and other manufacturing personnel as applicable.

· Establish daily and weekly production priorities based on customer orders, available capacity, materials, labor, and equipment.

· Monitor production output and proactively address bottlenecks, shortages, downtime, quality issues, and scheduling conflicts.

· Ensure products are manufactured according to drawings, specifications, bills of materials, work instructions, and established quality standards.

· Coordinate production activities across departments such as cutting, machining/CNC, assembly, sanding, finishing, upholstery, packaging, and shipping.

· Monitor labor utilization, overtime, productivity, scrap, rework, and overall manufacturing efficiency.

· Develop and track key production metrics, including output, labor efficiency, schedule attainment, quality, scrap/rework, and on-time completion.

· Identify opportunities to improve workflow, plant layout, manufacturing methods, labor utilization, and production capacity.

· Implement and support Lean manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, and waste-reduction initiatives.

· Work with Purchasing and Inventory teams to ensure raw materials, hardware, components, lumber, panels, fabric, foam, finishes, and other required materials are available when needed.

· Partner with Product Development to resolve manufacturing issues and improve product manufacturability.

· Coordinate with Maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and ensure preventative maintenance activities support production requirements.

· Maintain appropriate staffing levels and participate in hiring, training, performance management, and employee development.

· Ensure employees are properly trained on equipment, processes, quality requirements, and safe work practices.

· Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement.

· Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.

· Investigate production and quality problems, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.

· Maintain accurate production records and provide regular performance updates to senior management.

· Support inventory accuracy and proper material handling throughout the manufacturing process.

· Ensure finished products are properly inspected, packaged, and transferred to shipping according to schedule.

· Perform other duties necessary to support manufacturing operations and company objectives.

Qualifications

· Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish

· 5+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably in furniture, cabinetry, millwork, woodworking, upholstery, or a related industry.

· 3+ years of production leadership or management experience.

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production scheduling, labor planning, and capacity management.

· Experience managing multiple production departments or work centers.

· Ability to read and understand production drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and work orders.

· Strong knowledge of quality-control and continuous-improvement principles.

· Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, root-cause analysis, and process improvement is preferred.

· Familiarity with ERP/MRP or manufacturing management systems.

· Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and production reporting systems.

· Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to make timely decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

· Demonstrated ability to hold teams accountable while building a positive and productive workplace culture.

Education

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.

· Equivalent manufacturing leadership experience may be considered in place of a degree.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment around machinery, wood products, dust, finishing materials, and production equipment.

· Ability to stand and walk throughout the manufacturing facility for extended periods.

· Ability to occasionally lift or assist with moving materials or products as required.

· Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and follow all facility safety requirements.

Leadership Profile

The successful Production Manager will be highly visible on the production floor and comfortable working directly with employees to solve problems. This role requires someone who can balance production speed with quality and safety, establish clear expectations, use production data to make decisions, and create accountability throughout the manufacturing operation.
