Funeral Home Assistant

Palms West Funeral Home is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and professional individual to join our team as a Funeral Home Assistant. This is a hands-on position supporting our funeral directors, crematory operations, removal services, facility maintenance, and daily funeral home operations.

We are looking for someone who is respectful, reliable, able to work comfortably around deceased individuals, and committed to providing families with the highest level of dignity and care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist funeral directors with the preparation, dressing, casketing, and positioning of deceased individuals, as directed and permitted by applicable law.
  • Assist the crematory operator with crematory-related duties and general operations, as permitted by law and company policy.
  • Assist with the removal and transportation of deceased individuals from hospitals, nursing homes, hospice facilities, residences, and other locations.
  • Assist with transferring deceased individuals to and from funeral home vehicles, preparation areas, refrigeration, crematory, and other designated areas.
  • Perform general building, grounds, and facility maintenance.
  • Clean and maintain funeral home vehicles, equipment, preparation areas, crematory areas, and other facilities.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down chapels and visitation areas for funerals, memorial services, and visitations.
  • Move and arrange caskets, flowers, chairs, equipment, and other funeral service materials.
  • Assist funeral directors and staff during funeral and memorial services as needed.
  • Follow established procedures for sanitation, infection control, workplace safety, and the respectful handling of deceased individuals.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding deceased individuals and the families we serve.
  • Perform other funeral home and maintenance duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Dependable, punctual, professional, and respectful.
  • Comfortable working with and around deceased individuals.
  • Compassionate and able to maintain professionalism when working around grieving families.
  • Able to perform physical duties, including standing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting with assistance and/or appropriate equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to perform a variety of duties, from funeral service assistance to cleaning and general maintenance.
  • Previous funeral home, removal service, maintenance, healthcare, or related experience is preferred but not required.
  • Training will be provided for appropriate job duties.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility. Because of the nature of funeral service, applicants should be willing to work varying hours, including some evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call periods as needed.
