Executive Summary of Position:
This Pre-Closing Audit Specialist position is responsible for conducting a 100% loan file audit review prior to closing. The review activities are time sensitive, and they auditors shall complete the pre-closing audit, documenting any errors or findings, and perform loan file resubmission reviews prior to loan closings. The Pre-Funding Auditor shall always adhere to a pre-defined audit scope, and shall complete their assessments independently, accurately, and efficiently. The auditor is responsible for ensuring all loan level data, documentation, and program requirements are acceptable prior to approving the pre-closing audit.
Essential Duties:
  • Perform required pre-closing audit checklists for Borrowers, Guarantors, and each loan based on Product type (i.e., Short Term, Rental, and Blanket).
  • The audit shall be completed on 100% of loans originated pre-closing and shall be completed on for all Business Channels (Direct retail, Wholesale, and Referrals) & Loan/Product types.
  • Responsible for independent audit reviews, and the Audit Specialist MUST not be influenced by other staff, department heads, or internal functions, that may be incentivized or inappropriately pressuring to close the loan prior to a satisfactory audit being completed.
  • The auditor is responsible for ensuring all loan level data, documentation, and program requirements are revied and deemed acceptable prior to satisfying the pre-closing audit.
  • Auditors are responsible for documenting & accurately notating all errors or findings of each audit.
  • Auditors shall perform loan file resubmissions urgently in order to satisfy Pre-Closing Audit findings and permit the loan file to proceed to Settlement/Closing.
  • The Auditor shall always adhere to the pre-defined audit scope, and shall complete their assessments independently, accurately, and within service level expectations.
  • Escalate any findings or issues that may result in the Company's inability to sell a loan on the secondary market.
  • Communicate effectively with Audit Management to address any performance issues and elevates critical matters timely.
  • Reviews monthly reporting and audit trends.
  • Adheres to all Position requirements and follows company policies and procedures.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of Mortgage Underwriting and Compliance (auditing) review experience.
  • Excellent at understanding & following audit checklists and adhering to scope of work.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills; maintain a positive professional demeanor and ability to communicate with peers and upper management
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Must be detail oriented, and complete work accurately
  • Must be able to review, analyze and interpret information, and trouble-shoot to solve problems
  • Must take initiative, drive for results, and complete audits timely
  • Proficient with MS Office applications
  • Familiar with Audit systems and/or typical Mortgage Loan Origination Systems
  • May work remote or in local office.
