Build and Shape a Global Tax Function at One of Canadas Fastest-Growing Global Technology Companies

Who – the Company

Our client is a rapidly growing global software company headquartered in Metro Vancouver. Recognized as an industry leader and consistently ranked among Canada’s top employers, the company has built a strong reputation for innovation, customer experience, and exceptional workplace culture.
With operations across North America, Europe, Australia, and Latin America, the organization continues to expand internationally through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. As the business scales, they are investing heavily in building world-class finance infrastructure, including a modern, globally integrated tax function.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing Finance team during an exciting period of growth and transformation.

What – the Opportunity

SWIM Recruiting has been exclusively engaged to recruit a Senior Manager, Tax, reporting directly to the VP, Tax.
This is a newly created position that offers the opportunity to play a significant role in building and shaping a global tax function.
Rather than stepping into a mature environment, the successful candidate will help establish best practices, strengthen governance, improve documentation and processes, and gradually bring more tax expertise in-house as the organization continues to grow.
This is a highly visible role that combines technical tax expertise with business partnering, strategic projects, process improvement, and operational leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

Global Tax Compliance & Risk Management

  • Oversee global tax compliance across multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate external tax advisors and service providers.
  • Support tax audits and regulatory inquiries.
  • Monitor international tax legislation, including emerging global tax developments.
  • Strengthen governance, documentation, and internal controls while proactively managing tax risk.
  • Prepare and review global income tax provisions under ASC 740 (US GAAP).
  • Support quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.
  • Improve tax working papers, reporting documentation, and internal controls.
  • Build scalable reporting processes aligned with future public company requirements.
  • Support executive reporting and tax risk assessments.

Global Tax Strategy & Business Partnering

  • Support transfer pricing and global tax planning initiatives.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Product, Engineering, Sales, HR, Legal, and other business leaders on tax implications of strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with R&D tax incentives across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Support acquisitions, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration.
  • Contribute to ongoing international expansion and tax optimization initiatives.

Building the Function

  • One of the most exciting aspects of this opportunity is the ability to help build a world-class in-house tax function.

Historically, the organization has relied heavily on external advisors. The long-term vision is to gradually bring more expertise internally while improving governance, documentation, controls, and operational efficiency.
The successful candidate will have significant influence over how the tax department evolves over the coming years.

Who – the Candidate

Our client is seeking an experienced tax professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and a genuine business-partner mindset.
The successful candidate enjoys improving processes, solving complex problems, and working collaboratively across multiple business functions.
Required qualifications include:

  • Approximately 8+ years of progressive tax experience.
  • Big Four (or large national public practice) training.
  • Experience preparing tax provisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Comfortable operating independently within a fast-paced, high-growth organization.

Highly desirable experience includes:

  • Industry experience within a multinational organization.
  • ASC 740 (US GAAP income tax accounting).
  • Transfer pricing.
  • International tax.
  • IPO readiness.
  • M&A due diligence and integration.
  • Public company reporting.
  • AI-enabled tax tools and process automation.
  • Technology industry experience would certainly be beneficial, but it is not considered essential. The hiring team is much more interested in someone with a strong technical foundation, commercial mindset, and the desire to build and improve a growing global tax function.

This is much more than a traditional Senior Tax Manager opportunity.
You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Help build a global tax function from the ground up.
  • Partner directly with an experienced VP, Tax.
  • Work alongside senior leaders across Finance and the broader business.
  • Gain exposure to global tax strategy, acquisitions, international expansion, transfer pricing, and IPO readiness.
  • Influence the future direction of a rapidly growing multinational organization.

For someone who enjoys combining technical tax expertise with strategic thinking and business partnering, this represents a strong long-term career opportunity.

Where

The position is based in Metro Vancouver with a hybrid work arrangement requiring two days per week in the office.

How Much

Our client offers an excellent total rewards package, including:

  • Base salary anticipated in the range of $130,000–$170,000, depending on experience.
  • Equity participation.
  • RRSP matching.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits.
  • Excellent long-term career growth within a global organization.
