Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
Make Fridays the best day of the week!

Do you love working with kids, creating fun experiences, and being part of a team that makes a difference in the community? The Sheridan County YMCA is looking for an enthusiastic and responsible Big Horn Fun Friday Group Lead to help create safe, engaging, and memorable Fridays for K–5th grade youth.

As a Group Lead, you’ll spend your Fridays leading games, crafts, enrichment activities, and field trips while building positive relationships with children and helping them learn, grow, and have fun. If you're energetic, dependable, creative, and enjoy being a positive role model for kids, we'd love to have you join our Y team!

What You'll Do
  • Provide active, attentive supervision of an assigned group of K–5th grade children throughout the day, including during transitions and field trips.

  • Create a fun and welcoming environment through games, crafts, enrichment activities, and other age-appropriate programming.

  • Adapt activities to meet the different ages, abilities, interests, and developmental needs of participants.

  • Conduct regular headcounts and follow all YMCA safety procedures.

  • Help ensure children safely load and unload during field trips and maintain accurate attendance throughout the day.

  • Encourage positive behavior and model the YMCA's core values.

  • Build positive relationships with children, families, coworkers, volunteers, and other members of the YMCA community.

  • Work as part of a team to maintain a safe, organized, and engaging group environment.

  • Help with cleanup and ensure supplies, equipment, and activity materials are properly stored.

  • Communicate important information, including incidents, behavior concerns, and supply needs, to the Program Director.

  • Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education opportunities.

  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures regarding child safety, appropriate boundaries, abuse prevention, and mandated reporting.

What We're Looking For

You don't need years of experience to make a difference! We're looking for someone who:

  • Is mature, dependable, and able to exercise good judgment.

  • Enjoys working with children and can positively engage youth of different ages and abilities.

  • Is energetic, patient, creative, and enthusiastic.

  • Can lead and motivate children while maintaining a safe and structured environment.

  • Works well with others and communicates effectively with children, families, and coworkers.

  • Is willing to learn and complete required YMCA training.

Required Training

Training requirements include:

  • Alarm/Emergency Procedures training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.

  • CPR and First Aid training within 90 days of hire and every two years thereafter.

  • Child Abuse Prevention training within 90 days of hire and every two years thereafter.

  • Additional training as assigned by the Program Director.

Physical Requirements

This is an active position! The ability to walk, stand, bend, reach, lift, participate in activities, and keep up with energetic children is essential. You should be comfortable working in both fast-paced and slower-paced environments and be able to shift priorities as new needs arise.

Why Work at the Y?

At the Sheridan County YMCA, you're not just supervising kids—you're helping build a stronger community. Every Friday is an opportunity to help children feel included, develop confidence, make friends, and create memories they'll carry with them.

You'll also gain valuable experience in leadership, communication, teamwork, youth development, and community service.

If you're ready to make Fridays fun, safe, and meaningful, we want to hear from you!

Apply today and become part of the Sheridan County YMCA team.

The Sheridan County YMCA is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
