Employment Type:Full-Time, 35 hours/week

Pay Rate: $19.14/hour with a Bachelor's degree; $23.72/hour with an active teaching certification.

Why You'll Love This Role

At My Virtual Academy, we believe every high schooler deserves a guide in their corner - someone who knows their name, knows their goals, and shows up consistently to help them cross the finish line. As a Private School High School Guide, you'll be that person. You'll mentor students one-on-one, partner with families to keep momentum strong, and turn coursework into real progress toward a diploma. If you're a relationship-builder, a problem-solver, and a believer in the power of personalized education, this role is built for you.

About My Virtual Academy

Since 1991, My Virtual Academy has been illuminating the path to a brighter future for students across the country. We deliver 100% virtual, tuition-free K-12 education with round-the-clock access to learning materials, dedicated tech support, and the tools students need to thrive - including laptops, tablets, and internet access for those who need them. From learners who need extra support to young adults working toward their high school diplomas, we meet students where they are and walk with them every step of the way.

The Opportunity

The Private School High School Guide mentors and supports students enrolled in My Virtual Academy's private school program. You'll be the steady, encouraging presence that keeps students engaged in their coursework, on track with their goals, and connected to their families and teachers. With strong organization, proactive communication, and a heart for student success, you'll help turn a virtual classroom into a place where high schoolers feel seen, supported, and set up to graduate.

What You'll Do

Mentor & Engage Students

  • Maintain weekly communication with each assigned student to check in, celebrate wins, and keep momentum strong.
  • Collaborate with students to set academic goals, troubleshoot roadblocks, and acknowledge milestones along the way.
  • Promote student engagement and uphold the mission of My Virtual Academy in every interaction.

Guide the Learning

  • Guide students through coursework in Edmentum and provide basic technical support as needed to keep them moving forward.
  • Help students build the study habits, time management, and self-advocacy skills that lead to long-term success.
  • Identify when a student needs additional support and connect them with the right resources or team members.

Partner with Families

  • Communicate weekly with parents and guardians of minors to share progress updates, celebrate growth, and flag concerns early.
  • Use excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with parents and students - building trust, transparency, and partnership.
  • Serve as a steady, professional point of contact families can count on.

Document & Collaborate

  • Document all student and parent/guardian interactions accurately and consistently in the Genius Student Information System.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and individual check-ins with the Director of Education.
  • Share insights and ideas with your team to continuously improve the student experience.

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience in virtual teaching, mentoring, or student success coaching.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with parents and students.
  • Proficiency with technology and online learning platforms.
  • Successful background check and fingerprinting (Indiana, Arizona, and Tennessee).

Preferred

  • Valid teaching certificate in state of residence.
  • Experience with high school students in an online environment.
  • Working knowledge of Edmentum and the Genius SIS.

Benefits & Perks

We invest in our team because we know great people power great outcomes for students. Here's a snapshot of what you'll enjoy as part of the My Virtual Academy family:

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) - recharge, reset, and take care of what matters.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - confidential support for life's ups and downs.
  • IRA and wellness initiatives - plan for your future and prioritize your well-being.
  • Educational benefits after one year - keep learning and growing with us.
  • Paid volunteer hours - give back to causes you care about, on the clock.
  • Professional growth opportunities and ongoing training - build your career while you build futures.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the U.S., excluding the Pacific Time Zone. You'll need a reliable internet connection and a professional home office environment - and MVA provides a laptop and monitor to set you up for success. Regular virtual meetings and check-ins keep our team connected, energized, and aligned on the students we serve.

Why This Work Matters

Every weekly check-in you make is a student who feels seen. Every parent call you take is a family that feels supported. Every assignment turned in is one step closer to a diploma. If you're ready to combine the heart of a mentor with the discipline of a coach-and you want your daily work to translate directly into high school graduations and brighter futures-we want to hear from you.

Our Commitment

My Virtual Academy is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every team member can do their best work.
