Fulltime Offshore Oil Rig Roustabout information

How many people died on offshore oil rigs every year?

Fulltime offshore oil rig workers face a risk of fatalities, with industry reports indicating an average of around 10 to 20 deaths annually worldwide. Safety protocols, training, and proper use of personal protective equipment help reduce these risks, but accidents can still occur due to equipment failure, falls, or explosions.

Are roustabout jobs always offshore?

Roustabout jobs on offshore oil rigs are typically performed offshore, as the role involves maintaining equipment and assisting with operations on the rig platform. However, some roustabout positions may be available on land-based oil facilities or refineries, depending on the company and location. The offshore environment usually requires safety training and certifications such as BOSIET or HUET.

How much do offshore rig roustabouts make?

Offshore rig roustabouts typically earn between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, with experienced workers and those working longer shifts or in high-demand areas earning higher wages. Overtime, hazard pay, and additional certifications can increase total compensation, and the job often requires physical labor and safety training.

Is it hard to get hired on an offshore oil rig?

Getting hired as a full-time offshore oil rig roustabout can be competitive and requires physical fitness, safety training, and sometimes prior experience or certifications. Employers often look for strong work ethic, ability to work in challenging environments, and adherence to safety protocols. The hiring process may include interviews, background checks, and medical examinations.
