Fulltime Guard information

What is a fulltime guard?

Fulltime guards are security professionals employed on a full-time basis to protect people, property, or assets. Their responsibilities often include monitoring surveillance equipment, patrolling assigned areas, responding to security breaches, and reporting incidents. Fulltime guards may work in a variety of settings such as office buildings, schools, hospitals, or retail stores. They play a critical role in maintaining a safe environment by deterring criminal activity and responding to emergencies. These positions usually require background checks and may involve working irregular hours, including nights and weekends.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a fulltime guard, and how do they collaborate with other security staff?

A fulltime guard typically monitors assigned premises to prevent theft, vandalism, or other security breaches, conducts regular patrols, and checks surveillance equipment. They often check identification, control access to buildings, and respond to alarms or emergencies as needed. Collaboration is common, as guards frequently communicate with other security personnel, supervisors, or law enforcement to share information about incidents or coordinate responses. Teamwork and clear reporting are essential to maintaining a secure environment and ensuring shifts are covered effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fulltime guard, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fulltime Guard, you need a solid understanding of security protocols, situational awareness, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with surveillance systems, alarm monitoring equipment, and sometimes security officer certification are commonly required. Strong observation skills, reliability, and effective communication help guards respond to incidents and interact with the public. These skills and qualifications ensure the safety of people and property, enabling guards to prevent and address security threats efficiently.

What is the difference between Fulltime Guard vs Part-time Guard?

Employment BenefitsHealth insurance, paid time off, benefitsLimited or no benefits, depending on employer

Fulltime Guards work standard hours with comprehensive benefits and consistent schedules, while Part-time Guards have flexible hours with fewer or no benefits. Both roles require similar certifications and work in security environments, but the commitment level and benefits differ significantly.

  • Supervise execution of post orders, RAMP measures, inspections, and access-control standards; conduct documented post checks throughout the shift
  • Take charge of incident response on shift: direct immediate actions, ensure notifications within required timelines (verbal notice within 5 minutes for reportable incidents), preserve scenes, and coordinate with DES, law enforcement, and emergency services
  • Review and approve guard incident and daily reports for accuracy and completeness before end of shift; prepare supervisory reports and shift logs
  • Ensure use-of-force compliance; document and report any use of force immediately through Company and Acuity channels
  • Support internal quality control integrated with Acuity's QC program; identify deficiencies, take containment action immediately, and support written corrective action

  • Track training, license, medical, PAT, and credential currency for assigned personnel; flag expirations before they lapse
  • Maintain accountability of shift equipment, keys, radios, and Government-furnished property; report loss or damage immediately
  • Enforce standards of conduct and appearance; remove personnel from post when directed by Acuity or the Government and implement qualified replacement coverage
  • Maintain 24/7 reachability expectations for shift-management coordination as assigned; escalate to the Company 24/7 management POC as required

  • Three (3) or more years of security operations, law-enforcement, or military experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a shift of eight guards across multiple posts
  • Access-control and force-protection experience on a military installation, Federal facility, or comparable critical-infrastructure site
  • Strong written communication for supervisory reports, logs, and corrective-action documentation
  • If Government NIPR/e-mail access is determined necessary: ability to favorably complete a Tier 1 investigation for a Common Access Card (CAC); otherwise-authorized duties may be performed while the CAC is pending

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior DASG, DoD contract guard, or Army civilian police/security guard (AR 190-56) supervisory experience
  • Formal supervisory or leadership training (military NCO/PO leadership courses, FLETC, or equivalent)
  • Experience with quality-control programs, CBA-free SCLS workforces, or contract guard mobilizations
  • Instructor or field-training-officer credentials (may support Company training delivery)

Supervisory duties do not reduce physical requirements - the Guard II must be capable of performing and demonstrating every guard task.
  • Conditions of Employment
  • Identical to Security Guard I, plus: favorable Tier 1 investigation if CAC/system access is required; supervisory performance is subject to Acuity site oversight; removal-from-duty directives from Acuity or the Government must be executed immediately.
