Job Description:
This position is located in the Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Public Health and Health Professions and provides critical laboratory support for Dr. David Fuller's (https://pt.phhp.ufl.edu/profile/fuller-david/) research facility. Candidates interested in gaining research experience are encouraged to apply.
The position will involve working with laboratory mice and/or rats, in studies of brain and spinal cord neuroplasticity and rehabilitation.
Duties Include:
  • Prepare and process biological tissue samples for research, including tissue sectioning, slide preparation, mounting, and specimen storage using established laboratory procedures and equipment.
  • Perform microscopy procedures to examine and evaluate tissue samples, documenting observations and assisting with data collection activities.
  • Conduct immunohistochemistry procedures by preparing tissue samples, following laboratory protocols, and utilizing antibodies and laboratory techniques to identify and analyze protein expression.
  • Assist with the collection, organization, and analysis of research data using computer software and spreadsheets to support laboratory studies and reporting activities.
  • Assist with laboratory animal care activities.
  • Order laboratory supplies.
  • Coordinate with University of Florida IACUC and EH&S offices to ensure laboratory compliance.

Expected Salary:
$15.00 - $20.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area or two years of relevant laboratory work experience
Preferred:
  • Two years of experience working in a research laboratory
  • Experience with histology and microscopy
  • Experience with small animal surgery
  • Work will be conducted in a busy research laboratory, working alongside graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The ability to work well in a team setting is essential.
