What is the difference between Full Time Youtube Editor vs Video Content Producer?

AspectFull Time Youtube EditorVideo Content Producer
CredentialsEditing skills, video editing software proficiency, basic understanding of YouTube platformSame as editor, plus content planning and project management skills
Work EnvironmentOffice or remote, focused on editing videos for YouTube channelsBroader environment, overseeing entire content creation process including scripting, filming, and editing
Industry UsagePrimarily in digital media, entertainment, and influencer marketingIn digital media, marketing agencies, and media production companies

While both roles involve video production, a Full Time Youtube Editor specializes in editing videos specifically for YouTube, focusing on post-production. A Video Content Producer manages the entire content creation process, including planning, filming, and editing, often overseeing multiple projects and teams. The editor role is more technical, whereas the producer has a broader strategic responsibility.

Are YouTube editors in demand?

YouTube editors are in high demand due to the platform's growth and the need for engaging video content. Skilled editors familiar with editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro are sought after by content creators, media companies, and marketing agencies, often requiring strong storytelling and technical skills. The demand is expected to continue as video content remains a key marketing and entertainment tool.

How to get hired as a YouTube editor?

To get hired as a YouTube editor, build a strong portfolio showcasing your editing skills using tools like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro, and gain experience through freelance projects or internships. Familiarity with YouTube's content guidelines and SEO practices can also improve your chances of employment.

Is AI replacing video editors?

AI tools are increasingly used in video editing to automate tasks like cutting, color correction, and effects, but they do not fully replace human editors. Full-time YouTube editors rely on creative judgment, storytelling skills, and technical expertise that AI cannot replicate entirely. AI serves as a supplement to enhance efficiency rather than a complete substitute for skilled editors.

How much does a full-time YouTube editor make?

A full-time YouTube editor typically earns between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the content. Skilled editors proficient in editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro and with a strong portfolio can command higher salaries.

With more than 1500 employees across the US and Canada, the NHL is a global sports and entertainment organization committed to building healthy and vibrant communities using the sport of hockey. At the NHL, we are looking for dynamic, energetic and impactful individuals who are committed to doing the same by sharing in our philosophy that Hockey is for Everyone.
WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
SUMMARY
NHL Productions Digital team is seeking a Coordinating Editor with a proven track record in YouTube editing, analytics, and audience development. This role is for creators who understand how YouTube works at a deep level - from crafting high-retention edits to interpreting data and shaping content strategy.
You'll help define the NHL's YouTube channel by using performance insights to guide creative decisions and build formats that keep fans watching. You'll take projects from concept to publication, ensuring every video feels unmistakably NHL and engineered for YouTube success.
Ideal candidates are passionate about hockey and well-versed in the NHL ecosystem-including players, teams, storylines, and culture. You must be comfortable using YouTube data to inform creative decisions and continuously improve our content.

  • Edit and shape long-form YouTube videos that focus on strong openings and clear narrative arcs, being mindful of pacing for retention and watch-time with visual clarity and creator-style storytelling
  • Experience working with YouTube Studio and analytics tools, using performance data such as retention, watch time, and CTR to evaluate video success and inform creative and editorial decisions across edits, formats, and series
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of thumbnail creation and optimization, pulling selects directly from edits to maximize CTR while maintaining creative and brand integrity
  • Implement audience engagement strategies, such as A/B testing thumbnails and titles, managing and responding to community comments, and leveraging audience feedback to inform content decisions
  • Build and improve content designed specifically for YouTube, such as recurring series, multi-episode stories, and high-profile event programming
  • Edit and deliver sponsored YouTube content that feels authentic, audience-respectful, and performance-driven
  • Produce and support live and live-to-tape YouTube streams, including pre- and post-event content
  • Strong project management or multitasking abilities for balancing multiple deadlines

  • Minimum 8 years of experience producing digital-first video content in sports or entertainment, with a proven track record of success on YouTube or creator-driven platforms, including audience growth and high-performing projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in YouTube SEO, including keyword research, optimizing metadata (titles, tags, descriptions), and implementing channel optimization best practices to maximize visibility and discoverability
  • 7-10 years of advanced, hands-on experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop, including editing, motion graphics, and thumbnail creation for YouTube content
  • Strong understanding of content strategies, audience behaviors, and best practices across major social video platforms, with an emphasis on how YouTube differs from TikTok, Instagram, and broadcast
  • Experience producing branded or sponsored content integrations that authentically engage the audience, maintain editorial integrity, and deliver measurable value for partners and sponsors
  • Proven ability to pitch, develop, and execute new content concepts and series designed to increase viewership, deepen engagement, and drive sustainable channel growth
