Job description

About Actian

Actian, a division of HCLSoftware, is the leader in data intelligence. We develop high-performance database technologies (including Ingres, Vector, and Zen) that power the world, most demanding industries. As a DevOps Engineer, you are part of a mission-critical team that ensures our global engineering force has the most reliable and efficient build environments possible.

Actian is seeking a DevOps Engineer with 3-5 years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments. This role requires strong Linux and Windows system administration skills along with experience in automation, operational compliance, and audit support. The position works closely with engineering, operations, and security teams to maintain and improve critical infrastructure systems and operational processes.

Position requires employee to be physically located in the Austin Texas metro for hybrid working schedule. No relocation is available for this position at this time.ย ย

Responsibilities:
  • Administering and supporting Linux and Windows systems
  • Performing system maintenance, patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting
  • Supporting internal and external audit activities, including evidence collection and remediation tracking
  • Maintaining infrastructure and operational documentation
  • Developing and maintaining automation using Ansible
  • Working with Git-based workflows and configuration management
  • Supporting operational security and compliance initiatives
  • Assisting with infrastructure modernization and process improvement efforts
Preferred Experience:
  • Ansible and Git
  • Bash, PowerShell, or Python scripting
  • Virtualization platforms such as VMware or Proxmox
  • Backup and recovery platforms
  • Compliance and audit processes
  • Monitoring and infrastructure management tools
Ideal Candidate:
  • Organized, detail-oriented, technically strong, and comfortable balancing hands-on operational responsibilities with compliance and process requirements. Strong communication skills and the ability to work across teams in a fast-paced environment are important for success in this role.
  • Looking for candidates who have spent most of their career managing on-premises servers and infrastructure, not cloud environments. Cloud-native engineers with primarily Kubernetes and AWS/GCP/Azure experience are not a match.
  • Must be located in the Austin Texas area.ย
