Job description

The Weekend Nurse is the go-to healthcare hero on weekends, independently providing acute and episodic nursing care to residential students during designated weekend hours—all while representing the Health Services team with care, confidence, and compassion.

Members of our Health Services department play an important role in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of students ages 3 to 22 with a wide range of developmental, medical, behavioral, and communication needs. Nursing responsibilities include providing individualized health care, responding to acute and episodic medical needs, administering medications and treatments, monitoring students’ health status, supporting students with chronic health conditions, and collaborating with direct care support staff and other members of the care team. The nurse also helps promote a safe, supportive environment where each student can participate as fully as possible in their educational program, while providing compassionate care tailored to their individual needs and abilities.

What You'll Do:

  • Triage health related concerns and provide medical assessments of residential students as needed

  • Medication management and ordering

  • Participation in nursing meetings as available

  • Regular supervision meetings with Director of Health Services

  • Assist in supervision of teaching staff

  • Departmental support of Primary Care Nurses

  • Assist with student behavioral concerns for students. May need to call for additional assistance in some cases.

What You'll Need:

  • Massachusetts licensed Registered Nurse

  • BSN preferred; supervisory experience preferred

  • BLS certified

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent assessment and documentation skills

  • Previous nursing experience with pediatric special needs population (preferred)
