Join a well-established food manufacturing facility in Ontario, CA, as a Wastewater Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring the facility's wastewater treatment system, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and supporting food safety and operational excellence in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.


Location: Ontario, CA
Pay: $30.00–$32.00/hour (DOE)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Wastewater Operations

  • Operate and monitor the facility's industrial wastewater treatment system to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations and discharge permit requirements.
  • Monitor wastewater treatment processes, pumps, tanks, filtration systems, and chemical feed equipment.
  • Test and monitor wastewater quality, including pH levels and chemical concentrations, making adjustments as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, treatment records, and regulatory documentation.
  • Identify equipment issues and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Assist with routine inspections and preventive maintenance of wastewater equipment.

Environmental Compliance

  • Support compliance with environmental regulations and wastewater discharge permits.
  • Conduct routine inspections of stormwater outfalls in accordance with the facility's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  • Maintain documentation required for environmental compliance and inspections.
  • Assist during environmental and regulatory audits as needed.

Chemical & Waste Management

  • Monitor inventory levels of wastewater treatment chemicals and supplies.
  • Order chemicals and maintain inventory using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices.
  • Safely handle, transfer, and pump production waste into the wastewater treatment system.
  • Clean barrels, totes, and waste containers.
  • Prepare recyclable materials, including cardboard, drums, and barrels, for recycling or disposal.

Facility Maintenance

  • Maintain the wastewater treatment area and back lot in a clean, organized, and inspection-ready condition.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to support food safety and operational standards.
  • Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Food Safety & Quality

  • Follow all company food safety and quality policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with:
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards
  • Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
  • Report safety concerns, environmental hazards, spills, or equipment malfunctions immediately.


Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience operating an industrial wastewater treatment system.
  • Working knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, chemical handling, and environmental compliance.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and report equipment issues.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Wastewater Operator certification (preferred but not required).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of industrial wastewater treatment systems and processes.
  • Understanding of environmental compliance and wastewater discharge requirements.
  • Ability to safely handle wastewater treatment chemicals.

Physical Requirements
