Job description

Friendship Hospital for Animals, a leading AAHA-accredited specialty and emergency hospital in Washington, DC, is seeking a meticulous and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our Anesthesia team. If you have an advanced anesthesia skillset and enjoy working in a high volume, multi-disciplinary hospital where you can continue to hone your already impressive skills, we'd love to meet you.
About the role:
  • Prepare patients, medications, equipment, and treatment areas for sedation and general anesthesia.
  • Provide continuous multi-parameter monitoring and recognize and respond to changes in patient status and anesthetic emergencies.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of anesthetic and analgesic medications, including their effects and potential adverse reactions.
  • Safely operate, troubleshoot, and maintain anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate sterile technique and demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
  • Provide attentive post-anesthetic monitoring and safely transition patients back to their admitting service.
  • Participate in daily rounds and collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and specialty teams to coordinate patient care.

Schedule: This is a full time position with four 10-hour shifts per week. There is an on-call requirement of up to 5 days per month.

Qualifications
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, or RVT) or ability to become credentialed very highly preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, equipment, and medications in a veterinary specialty or emergency setting is required.
  • Previous experience working directly with a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist a plus
