Job description

The Opportunity

Are you a detail-oriented CPA with real expertise in estate, gift, and trust taxation—and are you ready for a role that actually flexes around your life? We're growing our estate and trust practice and looking for an experienced professional to help build it out.

This is an in-office role based in Westerville, so we're looking for local candidates. Beyond that, we've got room to work with you: some team members thrive on a full-time schedule, and others prefer fewer days during the off-season. If you've got the experience, let's talk about what fits.

What You'll Do
  • Manage and prepare federal and state returns, including Gift Tax (Form 709), Fiduciary Income Tax (Form 1041), final Individual Income Tax returns (Form 1040), and related state filings
  • Provide proactive tax planning and consulting to clients and their advisors on estate, gift, and trust matters
  • Advise fiduciaries on post-mortem tax planning strategies and elections
  • Analyze trust documents and consult on the tax implications of funding and distributions
  • Prepare formal and informal fiduciary accounting and beneficiary reporting
  • Maintain accurate records, track asset basis, and ensure proper allocation between principal and income
  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, beneficiaries, attorneys, and financial advisors
  • Communicate complex tax concepts clearly, without the jargon
  • Represent clients before tax authorities as needed
  • Research evolving estate, trust, and gift tax issues and stay current with the field
  • Manage client onboarding, engagement letters, billing, and collections for your portfolio
  • Meet with new referral sources and clients to help grow the practice

You'll also have real support: our administrative team handles the behind-the-scenes work so you can stay focused on the advisory side of the job.

What You Bring
  • Active CPA or EA license
  • 5+ years of relevant experience—public accounting, bank, or law firm—with direct work in estate, trust, and gift tax compliance and planning
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal estate, gift, and income tax law
  • Solid understanding of fiduciary accounting principles and the Ohio Uniform Principal and Income Act
  • Proficiency with Thomson Reuters tax software and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with high-net-worth clients and complex trust structures (preferred)
  • Experience with fiduciary accounting software (preferred)

You're self-motivated and driven, and you believe outcomes can always be improved. You enjoy solving problems, working collaboratively, and communicating clearly—whether that's with a client, a beneficiary, or an attorney. You manage multiple deadlines without losing your footing, and you've built a reputation people trust.

What We Offer
  • An attractive compensation model
  • A schedule built around your experience, including reduced days in the off-season if that's the right fit for you
  • Nearly every Friday off from May through December after tax season
  • An exceptional administrative team supporting your client relationships
  • Opportunities for continuing professional education (CPE) and growth
  • A collaborative, supportive team environment
  • Real autonomy in how you manage your work and clients
