Full Time Traveling Rbt information

What is a full time traveling RBT?

A Full Time Traveling Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a credentialed professional who provides applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy to clients, often children with autism, while traveling between different locations such as clients’ homes, schools, or clinics. Unlike traditional RBTs who work in a fixed location, traveling RBTs have a flexible schedule and may serve multiple regions or cities. Their primary role is to implement behavior intervention plans under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This position is ideal for those who enjoy variety in their work environment and are comfortable with frequent travel.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a full time traveling RBT?

To thrive as a Full Time Traveling RBT, you need a solid understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles, an active RBT credential, and experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities. Familiarity with data collection software, electronic health records, and mobile communication tools is important for efficiency on the go. Strong communication, adaptability, and organizational skills help you succeed in varied environments and collaborate effectively with clients, families, and clinical teams. These abilities ensure consistent, high-quality behavioral support and effective service delivery despite frequent travel and changing work settings.

What are common challenges faced by full time traveling RBTs, and how can they be managed?

Full Time Traveling RBTs often encounter challenges such as adapting to new environments, building rapport with diverse clients quickly, and maintaining consistent routines while on the road. It’s important to develop strong organizational skills, remain flexible, and communicate regularly with supervisors and local teams to ensure seamless transitions between assignments. Many RBTs find success by planning ahead for travel logistics, using digital tools to track client progress, and prioritizing self-care to manage the demands of frequent travel.

Job description

Job Title: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) - 1-on-1 Dedicated Support

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) for a full-time, 1-on-1 position supporting a 17-year-old client with a 5-year-old cognitive level. This role offers the unique opportunity to make a deeply meaningful impact on a single individual's life by helping them build essential life skills, communication, and independence across home, school, and clinical environments.

Position Highlights & Selling Points

  • Consistent 1-on-1 Focus: Work exclusively with one client to build strong rapport and see direct, long-term progress.

  • Dynamic Work Environments: Split your time across center-based visits, home visits, and school settings for a diverse daily experience.

  • Full-Time Stability: Predictable weekday schedule with steady hours.

  • Supportive Environment: Collaborate closely with supervising BCBAs and supportive family members (a parent or legal guardian is always present during home visits per state guidelines).

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Full-Time)

  • Flexibility Requirement: High schedule flexibility is required. Because the client may occasionally need to adjust or cancel sessions due to health reasons, candidates must be adaptable to environmental and scheduling shifts.

What You Will Do (Responsibilities)

  • Deliver direct 1-on-1 Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy tailored to a teenager with early-childhood cognitive needs.

  • Implement individualized ABA treatment plans and behavior reduction strategies designed by the supervising BCBA.

  • Foster the client's development in communication, social interactions, functional academics, and daily adaptive life skills.

  • Maintain strict safety standards using approved behavior management techniques.

  • Accurately track and record behavioral data and session documentation in real time.

  • Assist clinical staff with preparing session materials, visual aids, and learning tools.

  • Communicate professionally with caregivers and participate in regular BCBA supervision and coaching sessions.

Required Qualifications

  • Active RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) certification (or actively in the process of obtaining certification).

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and current auto insurance (required for travel between home, school, and center settings).

  • High degree of patience, empathy, and adaptability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Previous experience working 1-on-1 with individuals with developmental delays or dual cognitive/age profiles.

For California Applicants:

We will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable federal, state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance (FCIHO), Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (ULAC), The San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (FCO) , and the California Fair Chance Act (CFCA).

This position is subject to a background check based on its job duties, which may include patient care, working with vulnerable populations, access to financial and confidential information, driving, working with heavy machinery, or working in a warehouse or laboratory environment. Due to these job duties, this position has a significant impact on the business operations and reputation, as well as the safety and well-being of individuals who may be cared for as part of the job position or who may interact with staff or clients.
