Job description

Job Title: Estimator

Location: Midwest Region (Onsite / Hybrid based on business needs)
Reports To: Chief Estimator / VP of Operations

Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for private and public civil preconstruction projects. This role supports project success by evaluating labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and project schedules while identifying potential risks and opportunities for value engineering. The Estimator will support preconstruction efforts through budget development, cost planning, constructability reviews, and collaboration with project stakeholders during the early phases of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, conceptual estimates, and cost estimates for private and public civil construction projects, including demolition, excavation, grading, utilities, site concrete, turf, athletic surfacing, and equipment.

  • Review and analyze construction documents, drawings, specifications, and design development packages to ensure scope accuracy and support preconstruction planning efforts.

  • Submit RFIs to clarify existing conditions, design intent, and proposed improvements.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with material suppliers and subcontractors across assigned markets.

  • Analyze historical cost data to establish competitive and accurate pricing.

  • Assist with budget development, cost planning, cost modeling, and feasibility analysis for prospective projects.

  • Provide value engineering and constructability review recommendations to support successful contract awards.

  • Prepare bid packages and solicit pricing from subcontractors and vendors.

  • Review subcontractor and supplier quotes for scope completeness, compliance, and potential scope gaps.

  • Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions and project constraints.

  • Attend pre-bid and preconstruction meetings as needed.

  • Support project phasing, scheduling, procurement planning, and resource planning efforts.

  • Participate in risk assessment activities and identify opportunities to improve project cost efficiency.

  • Prepare complete and organized estimate documentation for handoff to preconstruction and operations teams.

Qualifications
  • Experience estimating within the construction industry, preferably civil construction or preconstruction services.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • High level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, HCSS HeavyBid, and AutoDesk Build.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
