Job description

Job Summary:
Books A Million is a company seeking a Programmer Analyst for their IT Department. The role involves developing and maintaining systems that support people operations, collaborating with HR stakeholders and third-party vendors to ensure applications run smoothly and improve over time.
Responsibilities:
• Develop, modify, and debug Infor process automations using LPL (Landmark Pattern Language) for Infor GHR/HCM
• Build and maintain reports and solutions using Infor Spreadsheet Designer (ISD)
• Write and optimize SQL and JavaScript to support integrations, data extraction, and custom solutions
• Support change management processes for Infor/GHR system updates and enhancements
• Research, analyze, and resolve system support issues end-to-end with minimal guidance
• Diagnose backend Infor issues including data integrity, security, and integration problems
• Act as an escalation point for technical issues related to time tracking, payroll, leave management, and workforce management (WFM)
• Maintain and support multiple environments (development, test/UAT, and production)
• Conduct pre-user unit testing to validate system changes before broader deployment
• Assist users with UAT (User Acceptance Testing), ensuring defects are captured and resolved
• Participate in system upgrades, patch testing, and new module rollouts
• Partner with HR and business stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into technical requirements and configurations
• Document system configurations, workflows, and process changes to maintain clarity and repeatability
• Support administration of annual HR processes such as merit cycles, compliance reviews, and benefits enrollment
• Collaborate with third-party vendors on outsourced solutions and integrations as needed
Qualifications:
Required:
• Experience working with Infor on the backend — diagnosing system issues, understanding data flows, and navigating configurations
• Development proficiency in JavaScript and SQL
• Experience supporting workforce management (WFM) systems
• Ability to function as both a technical analyst and a business analyst — translating between system behavior and business need
• Experience supporting multi-environment systems (test, UAT, and production)
• Strong attention to detail and a structured, methodical approach to problem-solving
• Clear communication skills — able to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
• Located in or able to work from Birmingham, AL (remote may be considered for an exceptional candidate)
Preferred:
• Direct experience with Infor GHR (Global Human Resources / HCM module)
• Experience with LPL (Landmark Pattern Language)
• Experience with ISD (Infor Spreadsheet Designer) and IPD (Infor Process Designer)
• Background in or strong interest in business analyst responsibilities beyond HRIS (e.g., ERP or Finance systems)
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field
• Primary work location: Birmingham, AL (on-site); remote considered for exceptional candidates
• Standard full-time schedule; Monday–Friday
