What is a full time stylist?

Full time stylists are professionals who provide fashion, hair, or personal styling services to clients on a regular, typically 40-hour per week schedule. They work in salons, retail stores, fashion houses, or as personal consultants, helping clients choose outfits, create looks, or maintain their hair and appearance. Full time stylists often keep up with the latest trends, offer personalized advice, and build lasting relationships with their clients to enhance their overall style.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time stylist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Stylist, you typically need expertise in hair cutting, coloring, and styling techniques, supported by a cosmetology license or relevant certification. Familiarity with salon management software, point-of-sale systems, and professional styling tools is essential. Outstanding communication, creativity, and customer service skills help you build strong client relationships and deliver personalized experiences. These abilities ensure high client satisfaction, repeat business, and a positive reputation in a competitive industry.

What are the typical challenges a full time stylist faces when managing multiple clients in a busy salon environment?

A Full Time Stylist often needs to balance appointments, walk-ins, and client consultations, especially during peak hours. Managing time efficiently while maintaining high-quality service can be challenging, as each client may have unique requirements and expectations. Stylists must also stay updated on the latest trends and techniques, and work collaboratively with other team members, such as colorists and receptionists, to ensure a seamless client experience. Adapting to different personalities and building long-term client relationships are key aspects that contribute to success in this role.

What is the difference between Full Time Stylist vs Part Time Stylist?

AspectFull Time StylistPart Time Stylist

Is it hard to get a job as a full time stylist?

Securing a full-time stylist position can vary depending on location, experience, and the salon or company. Building a strong portfolio, gaining relevant certifications, and networking can improve chances, but competition can be high in popular markets. Having good customer service skills and staying updated on current trends also help in the hiring process.

Is styling a good career?

Styling as a full-time stylist can be a rewarding career for those with creativity, strong communication skills, and an interest in fashion. It often involves working in salons, fashion shows, or freelance settings, with income varying based on experience, clientele, and location. Success requires building a client base, staying current with trends, and developing technical skills such as haircutting, coloring, or styling techniques.

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
