Position Announcement
Located within Utah Tech University's Innovation Labs at Atwood Innovation Plaza, the Parkspass program operates the digital recreation infrastructure for Utah's 46 state parks under contract with the Utah Division of State Parks. Parkspass is seeking a Field Operations Manager to install, administer, and maintain networked field technology systems across the state park system, and to manage the field operations, fulfillment, and hourly staff supporting those systems. The position is the primary information technology presence at park sites statewide, spanning camera systems, self-service kiosks, payment terminals, digital signage, visitor-counting instrumentation, and edge-computing equipment. This position reports to the Director of Parkspass and Innovation Labs, supervises student and hourly employees, and coordinates directly with park managers and staff across Utah's three park regions.
Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and administer networked field systems across remote park sites statewide, including IP camera systems, self-service kiosks, payment terminals, digital signage platforms, visitor-counting sensors, and edge-computing devices running computer vision applications.
  • Administer cloud-based device management platforms, including camera services, digital signage content management systems, and kiosk fleet management tools; monitor device health remotely and apply configuration and firmware updates.
  • Perform network diagnostics, connectivity troubleshooting, and repair across cellular, wireless, and wired infrastructure at locations without on-site information technology support.
  • Deploy, configure, and support point-of-sale and payment systems statewide; train park and museum staff on system operation and transaction workflows.
  • Serve as the escalation point for park staff and visitors experiencing technical issues with Parkspass systems, resolving problems beyond the scope of front-line staff.
  • Collaborate directly with the Parkspass software engineering team on platform products, including field testing, defect reporting, and product feedback informed by on-site operations.
  • Oversee visitor pass fulfillment operations, including production, inventory, and distribution of physical passes and credentials, and investigation and resolution of fulfillment exceptions and delivery failures across systems.
  • Supervise student and hourly employees supporting fulfillment and field operations; review and manage timesheets for hourly staff.
  • Coordinate onboarding of new interns and student employees in direct partnership with University Human Resources.
  • Plan and coordinate deployments and pilots with park managers and staff statewide, including scheduling, site preparation, and installation.
  • Conduct field data collection and geographic information system (GIS) work, including GPS-tagging of park amenities and mapping of park infrastructure.
  • Manage equipment inventory and maintain accurate records of deployed assets and field service activity.
  • Travel regularly to state parks across all regions to support installations and ongoing operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering technology, geographic information systems, business, or a related field required. A combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two years of related internship or job experience required; experience deploying or administering networked hardware systems, managing field or multi-site technical operations, or working with state or national government agencies preferred. The total qualifications required are based on a combination of education and work experience. Any experience used to meet the education requirement cannot also be used to meet the work experience requirement.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and maintaining networked hardware such as IP cameras, kiosks, payment terminals, sensors, digital signage, networking equipment, or similar devices.
  • Working knowledge of network diagnostics, connectivity troubleshooting, and basic system administration, including remote device management platforms.
  • Experience supporting point-of-sale or payment systems and training end users preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage operations across multiple sites, including scheduling, logistics, and inventory management.
  • Experience supervising employees or student workers, including timekeeping or onboarding responsibilities, preferred.
  • Experience with GIS tools and GPS data collection preferred.
  • Ability to travel frequently to remote park locations and to work outdoors in variable field conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to lift and move equipment required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in inventory and record-keeping.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $62,000-$65,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of September 2026.
