Job Summary
The Cloud Engineer is a senior technical resource responsible for designing, deploying, operating, securing, and optimizing cloud-based environments that support GSA’s PTS portfolio (PPMS, TMSS, and SmartPay). This role is critical to ensuring high availability, security compliance, performance, and cost efficiency of AWS-hosted and FAS Cloud Services–hosted systems in a DevSecOps and Agile delivery model. The Cloud Engineer works closely with GSA IT, FAS Cloud Services, Security teams, Cloud Solutions Architect, application developers, and operations teams to manage cloud infrastructure, automate deployments, support O&M activities, and ensure continuous Authorization to Operate (ATO).
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop cloud‑based infrastructure, platforms, and services aligned with technical and security requirements.
  • Select appropriate cloud platforms, architectures, and deployment models (public, private, hybrid, or multi‑cloud).
  • Create and maintain cloud architecture diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Deploy new applications and migrate existing workloads from on‑premises or legacy environments to the cloud.
  • Develop and manage automation and infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) for cloud provisioning and lifecycle management.
  • Monitor cloud system performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Optimize cloud environments for cost efficiency, scalability, and high availability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure and application issues.
  • Implement and manage cloud security controls, including IAM, networking, logging, and encryption.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, industry, and government security standards.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, system administrators, and cybersecurity teams.

Skills Required
  • Experience with major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, networking, storage, and compute services.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure‑as‑code and automation tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates).
  • Experience supporting application deployment and migration to cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and performance management tools.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security principles, IAM, and data protection.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across technical teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, mission‑critical environment.
