Job description

We are seeking a Transportation Designer/Technologist to join our Transportation Infrastructure team in a full-time, hybrid role based out of any of our Ontario offices. Reporting to the Discipline Lead, you will provide technical and design leadership on preliminary and detailed transportation projects for the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and local municipalities. In this position, you will also drive key impacts by contributing to business development initiatives and mentoring junior technical staff.

This is a new position and can be based at any one of our following offices: Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, Vaughn, Oakville, Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Chatham, or Windsor. Technical Project Work

  • Prepare preliminary and detailed designs for freeways, urban and rural multilane and two-lane facilities, interchanges, and intersections
  • Prepare technical reports, design drawings, design quantities, and contract documents
  • Interact with clients, approval agencies, utility companies, contractors and other stakeholders
  • Provide support and oversight of junior staff working on transportation projects
  • Interact regularly with project team members including engineers, planners, environmental scientists, engineering technologists and various support staff

Business Development

  • Contribute technical expertise to business development activities including responding to requests for proposals, preparation of proposals and statements of qualifications
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of strong client relationships
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request

Learning & Development

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

  • A diploma in civil engineering technology
  • Licensed to practice as a Civil Engineering Technologist or eligible within six months
  • A minimum of eight years' professional experience, preferably in the consulting industry
  • Demonstrated aptitude for, and interest in, business development

  • In-depth knowledge in preliminary and detailed design work with proven design capabilities
  • Experience with MTO design software including InRoads and AutoCAD
  • Proven experience and in-depth technical knowledge and capabilities in highway/transportation design including policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures
  • Experience contributing technical expertise to proposals and reports

Compensation

 $76,550 - $126,550

At Dillon, we believe in transparency. The following salary range is what we expect to offer for this position. It will be dependent on the successful applicant’s education, experience, and skills, in addition to internal equity and geographic region. Dillon reserves the right to pay outside of the posted range, contingent on factors unrelated to an applicant’s gender or other status protected by provincial and/or federal law.
