What is a full time server?

Full time servers are hospitality professionals who work at restaurants, bars, or other dining establishments, typically for 30-40 hours per week or more. Their main responsibilities include taking customer orders, serving food and beverages, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring a clean and welcoming dining environment. Full time servers may also handle payments, help with setting up and closing down the restaurant, and assist with other tasks as needed. Because of their full-time status, they often receive more consistent hours, and may be eligible for additional benefits like health insurance or paid time off compared to part-time staff.

Can you work full time as a server?

Yes, full-time server positions are common in the hospitality industry, typically requiring employees to work around 35-40 hours per week. These roles often involve evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, and may require food safety certifications or experience in customer service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time server, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Server, you need strong customer service abilities, multitasking skills, and basic math proficiency, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and knowledge of food safety regulations are also important. Outstanding interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude help servers excel in fast-paced environments. These skills ensure efficient service, customer satisfaction, and a seamless dining experience.

What are some common challenges faced by full time servers and how can they be managed effectively?

Full-time servers often encounter challenges such as balancing multiple tables during busy periods, handling difficult customers, and maintaining high standards of service throughout long shifts. Effective time management, strong communication skills, and teamwork with kitchen and bar staff are essential for managing these challenges. Many restaurants provide training and encourage open communication among staff to ensure smoother service and a more positive work environment. Building rapport with regular customers and supporting teammates also helps create a more enjoyable and efficient workplace.

Job description

Description:
Tips included in total hourly compensation.
About Parry's
At Parry's Pizzeria & Taphouse, we create memorable dining experiences through Craveably Crafted™ Food & Beer and Uncommon Hospitality. Our Servers play a central role in shaping that experience by building genuine connections, guiding guests through the menu, and driving sales through service.
Parry's restaurants are fast-paced, high-volume, and guest-focused. Serving here means more than delivering food - it's an opportunity to build relationships, create regulars, and directly impact the success of the shift through hospitality and sales.
Role Overview
Servers at Parry's are responsible for owning their section and guest experience from greeting to goodbye. This role requires applying CHEERS at every table - using conversation, awareness, and product knowledge to anticipate needs, create ease, and build sales. Serving at Parry's is a sales role supported by hospitality, not a transactional job.
Responsibilities + Duties
  • Apply CHEERS at every table:
    • Cheerful Prompt Greet: Greet guests promptly, introduce yourself, and set expectations for the experience
    • Hospitality First: Prioritize the guest experience over task completion
    • Engage Guests: Build rapport through conversation (e.g., "Have you been here before?" or "What brought you in today?")
    • Ease Their Needs: Anticipate refills, pacing, boxes, sauces, kid needs, and celebrations
    • Ready for 'Em: Manage section flow, table turns, and communication with Hosts and Service Managers
    • Swipe That Card - Say Goodbye: Close the experience with gratitude, an invitation back, and clear payment execution
  • Guide guests through the menu by explaining how it's laid out and highlighting signature items and drinks
  • Make thoughtful recommendations and upsell naturally based on guest preferences
  • Identify first-time guests and regulars and adjust service accordingly
  • Communicate guest insights to teammates (celebrations, preferences, timing needs)
  • Maintain cleanliness, pre-bussing standards, and sanitation throughout the shift
  • Complete opening and closing duties accurately and on time

Requirements:
Qualifications + Skills
  • Restaurant or serving experience preferred
  • Comfortable selling and making recommendations
  • Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs. as needed
  • Professional, energetic, and guest-focused demeanor
  • Willingness to learn and apply coaching in real time

Additional Info:
Perks + Benefits
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Ongoing training and career growth opportunities
  • Discounted meals (50% off!)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision - available to eligible full-time employees
