The Spencerport School District is currently accepting applications for a full-time security worker at Cosgrove Middle School. Applications will be reviewed and selected candidates will be contacted for an interview.
Candidates must be eligible for appointment as Security Worker, as per the rules and regulations of the Monroe County Department of Human Resources and Civil Service.
*Applicants must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment for the NYS Education Department before employment begins.
Civil Service: Competitive, no exam is currently required. New hires will be appointed on a permanent basis.
Duties: Under direct supervision of the Senior Security Worker and Director of Security, patrols school buildings to ensure a safe and secure building environment, as well as the personal safety of students, staff, and visitors.
  • Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors and School District property in accordance with school policies to provide an educational climate which is conducive to learning.
  • Conducts ongoing security patrols of the building(s).
  • Enforces Board of Education policies, the Code of Conduct, and other school rules and regulations.
  • Supports and assists building and district administrators when responding to an emergency.
  • Reports concerns and incidents which may require corrective action.
  • Monitors exits and prevents unauthorized exits of the building by students.
  • Assists investigations as assigned by supervisor.
  • Physically separates students involved in altercations and maintains crowd control as needed.
  • Monitors grounds to prevent loitering and improper parking of vehicles.
  • Uses radio and/or electronic communications equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma. Experience as a security guard or security officer may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with students K-12, ability to work with students, staff, and the public, willingness to work additional hours as need, willingness to work an alternative work day schedule as required to support educational and district program needs.
Special Requirements: Current registration as a Security Guard with the New York State Department of State.
Appointment: 10-months, plus possible additional days during school recess periods.
Hours: 7:30AM - 4:00PM, Monday - Friday
Salary/Rate of Pay: $20.00 - $20.50 per hour for licensed security guards, based on prior experience. Active/retired law enforcement: $25.00 per hour; $25.00 - $26.00 based on prior experience in a K-12 educational setting.
Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision; paid leave time including sick, family, personal and paid holidays; NYS Pension.
