Fred Hutch is seeking a Sr. Staff Scientist to engage in research activities and program management. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Sr. Staff Scientist to work in a collaborative environment leading a program focused on Controlled Human Infection Models (CHIM) for multiple pathogens. We are also seeking a candidate who can  contribute to studying innate and adaptive immunology in humans and translational NHP models. We are actively exploring and developing various CHIMs, e.g. malaria, TB, and H. pylori, to expand the translational research opportunities derived from access to CHIMs including vaccines, immune-based prevention and therapies, and other therapeutic interventions. Additionally, we have samples from multiple malaria CHIM studies from which we expect to pursue additional immunology studies and compare these to ongoing or future studies in NHP models.

This position is ideally suited for a candidate who is highly productive and motivated, enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines, mentoring junior scientific investigators, and contributing to an innovative academic environment to forge new scientific directions. The ideal candidate should have experience in CHIMs and immunology, a track record of successful grant writing, and demonstrated aptitude for innovation, creativity, and team-science. A commitment to excellent patient care, professionalism, collegiality, and respect for colleagues, staff, students, and patients, and scholarly contributions are all critical for success in this work. Responsibilities
  • Strategic direction and program management for CHIM studies at VIDD.
  • Significant contributions to sponsored research applications as PI or co-PI.
  • Initiate original research projects and programs with support from faculty mentors.
  • Initiate technology transfer and/or fee for service agreements with support from faculty members as required.
  • Excellence and productivity in basic, translational and/or clinical research.
  • Authorship in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentation at conferences.
  • Engagement with laboratory and/or clinical research faculty to contribute to existing research portfolios.
  • Management of project coordinator(s) and laboratory research staff as required.
  • Demonstrated mentorship and training ability.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and outreach.
  • Citizenship as demonstrated through adherence to Center policies and values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD required.
  • Track record of productive research, with high quality publications.
  • Track record of independence and autonomy, with project oversight responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated strong ability for collaboration, particularly with bioinformaticians and clinicians.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in immunology, vaccines, and immune-based therapies.
  • Experience with animal models/animal handling (NHP and mice).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in flow cytometry, single cell transcriptomics, gene editing, molecular biology, proteomics, immunohistochemistry, and/or microscopy is a plus.
  • MBA is a plus.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $99,715 to $228,717, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
