What are full-time RVers?

Full-time RVers are individuals or families who choose to live in their recreational vehicles (RVs) year-round rather than in a traditional house or apartment. They travel frequently, exploring different places while using their RV as their primary residence. Full-time RVing offers a flexible and adventurous lifestyle, but also comes with unique challenges such as managing mail, healthcare, and finding reliable internet on the road.

What are some common challenges faced by Full-Time RVers in maintaining a work-life balance while on the road?

Full-Time RVers who work remotely often find it challenging to separate their work and personal life due to limited space and the constant change of environment. Reliable internet access can also be a hurdle, requiring advance planning and investment in mobile connectivity solutions. Additionally, time zone changes and varying campground environments may impact productivity and routine, so successful RVers develop strong organizational skills and flexible schedules to stay on track. Building community with other RVers and utilizing co-working spaces when available can also help maintain a healthy balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full-Time RV Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full-Time RV Technician, you need strong mechanical aptitude, diagnostic skills, and knowledge of RV systems, typically supported by technical training or certification (such as RVIA/RVDA). Familiarity with hand and power tools, diagnostic software, and electrical and plumbing systems is crucial. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication with customers set top performers apart. These skills ensure safe, high-quality repairs and maintenance, leading to customer satisfaction and repeat business.

What do full-time RVers do for income?

Full-time RVers often earn income through remote work, freelancing, or digital jobs such as writing, graphic design, or programming. Some also generate income from online businesses, consulting, or seasonal work, allowing them to work while traveling full-time.

Job description

Since 1933, Heath Consultants has been the trusted leader in natural gas leak detection and safety services — protecting communities, utilities, and the environment across the country. We are a family-owned company with a nationwide field presence and a deep commitment to the people who do this critical work every day.

Your RV Is Your Advantage.

Heath Consultants is actively recruiting full-time traveling technicians who live and travel in their RVs( 80% travel required). We provide an RV site stipend, travel pay between assignments, and steady field work — so you can keep moving while building a real career in natural gas safety.

The Opportunity: Built for the RV Lifestyle

This is not your average field technician role. As a Traveling Leak Survey Technician, you will rotate across assigned territories — inspecting natural gas distribution systems, detecting leaks with advanced equipment, and ensuring the communities we serve are safe. We designed this position with the full-time RVer in mind:

  • Monthly RV site stipend to offset campground costs
  • Monday–Friday schedule with predictable hours
  • Travel pay while driving between assignments
  • No cold winters or hot summers stuck in one place
  • New territories mean new scenery — always moving
  • Steady income without being desk-bound

What You'll Do

Protect Communities

  • Inspect natural gas distribution systems across assigned territories
  • Conduct leak surveys using industry-leading gas detection technology
  • Accurately document findings and complete compliance reports
  • Follow strict safety protocols and federal/local regulations
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners and members of the public

Your daily work helps prevent hazardous situations and keeps the communities you visit safe — wherever the road takes you.

Work Outdoors & Stay Active

This role is made for people who thrive outside. You will:

  • Walk approximately 4–7 miles per day
  • Work in varied terrain and weather conditions
  • Bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Stay on your feet throughout your shift

Operate Specialized Equipment

Heath provides comprehensive paid training and industry certifications. No prior gas industry experience required — we train you from day one and set you up to succeed in the field.

Compensation & RV Support Package

We built this package to make the traveling technician lifestyle financially sustainable:

Competitive Base Pay

Paid weekly — know exactly when your check arrives

RV Site Stipend

Monthly stipend to offset campground and site costs

Travel Pay

Paid mileage/travel compensation while driving between assignments

Vehicle Allowance

$800/month personal vehicle allowance

Fuel Card

$300/month fuel card

Phone Allowance

Up to $40/month

Paid Training

Full paid instructor-led training and certifications

Referral Bonus

$1,500 for each successful employee referral

POV Program Requirements: Active auto insurance (min. 100/300/100 or $300,000 CSL), proof of insurance at renewal, and a vehicle meeting Heath standards (4-door, backup camera, hands-free capable, professional appearance).

Full Benefits:

✔ Medical, dental, vision & life insurance

✔ Paid training and certifications

✔ Weekly pay cycle

✔ Paid time off and paid holidays

✔ 401(k) with company match

✔ Career advancement pathways

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
  • Ability to pass a DOT drug screen and background check
  • Reliable personal vehicle meeting program standards
  • Proficiencywith smartphones and tablets for field reporting
  • Ability to read and interpret utility maps
  • Strong reliability, accountability, and a safety-first mindset
  • Ability to use basic hand tools
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

No industry experience required. We value work ethic, dependability, and the self-sufficiency that comes naturally to those who already live life on the road.

The Ideal Candidate

You're already out there.

You live in your RV, you're self-sufficient, you're comfortable in new places, and you know how to get things done without someone looking over your shoulder. That makes you exactly who we're looking for.

Heath technicians are action-oriented, detail-driven, honest, and customer-focused. If that sounds like you, this role was built with you in mind.

Career Growth

Heath is committed to developing long-term careers, not just filling positions. Many of our technicians advance into senior technician, field leadership, and safety management roles. The more you grow with us, the more options you have — whether you want to keep traveling or eventually transition to a regional role.
