This position is a Full-time position and is based at the Johnson County OR Alexander County Public Health Department in Vienna or Cairo, Illinois. Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
    1. Certification of graduation from a school or nursing program approved by Illinois Department of Professional Regulation AND
    2. Requires a valid Illinois RN license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      1. Knowledge and use of modern office practices and procedures including basic computer skills.
      2. Knowledge and capable of dealing with persons of diverse socio-economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
      3. Knowledge and use of appropriate telephone etiquette.
      4. Ability to carry out detailed but basic oral and written instructions.
      5. Communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.

Physical Requirements:
    1. Strength: Lift/carry up to 40 pounds on occasion and 10 pounds frequently.

Salary: $26.10 - $29.49 hourly
Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) assumes professional responsibility for a wide range of client services within Southern Seven Health Department. The RN is assigned to perform health promotion, health education, disease prevention, referrals, home visits, developmental screenings, and care plans in accordance with IDPH, Southern Seven policies and procedures, as well as Southern Seven standing orders.
Job Duties:
  1. Assists in the determination of eligibility for a wide range of public health and overall agency services.
  2. Performs professional nursing functions, including the use of interviewing and public health nursing assessment skills, the identification of health, social, and other related needs of the client and family, and determines the urgency of the need for services and initiates appropriate action.
  3. Assures documentation of service delivery in accordance with professional standards and Southern Seven policies and procedures to ensure completeness and accuracy of client records and associated data bases; uses only agency approved abbreviations. Maintains confidentiality of all client records.
  4. Performs home visits according to agency and Southern Seven policy and procedures.
  5. Coordinates client activities and referrals within the agency across programs as well as with school and other community agencies as appropriate; maintains knowledge of local and state program policies and procedures.
  6. Participates in appropriate staff and agency meetings with supervisor's approval to plan for services and to assure the coordination with community agencies.
  7. Participates in communicable and chronic disease investigation and surveillance.
  8. Performs delegated medical functions as outlined in Southern Seven policies and procedures and standing orders (vital signs, heights/weights, TB skin tests, pregnancy tests, blood lead tests, hemoglobin and cholesterol screenings, STD testing, etc.).
  9. Prepares and administers vaccines for an immunization in accordance with Southern Seven policies and procedures and standing orders.
  10. Performs lab procedures, including venipuncture and prepares specimens as necessary; conducts follow up on abnormal lab results.
  11. Complies with all standard operating procedures of Southern Seven regarding employee health and safety, including but not limited to OSHA regulations, CLIA, EPA regulations regarding waste disposal, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and adheres to Exposure Control Plan.
  12. Assures that medical supplies and equipment are maintained in an appropriate manner and reports any problems, malfunctions, or supply issues to the Director of Nursing in a timely manner.
  13. Works at other clinic sites as assigned based on agency needs.
  14. Assists other nursing or clerical staff as clinic needs warrant.
  15. Provides direction to paraprofessional staff in delivery of client services.
  16. Complies and is familiar with the requirements of the policies and procedures adopted by Southern Seven Health Department as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
  17. Attends and actively participates in scheduled staff meetings and training.
