The Department of State Hospitals - Coalinga is now accepting applications for multiple Physician and Surgeon (Safety) - Retired Annuitant positions. Under medical supervision, provides adequate, appropriate, and timely preventative, routine, specialized, and emergency medical care to all individuals residing at the Department of State Hospitals - Coalinga in need of such services, consistent with generally accepted professional standards of care. The incumbent is responsible for making professional decisions regarding general medical work and surgery, as well as for appropriate referrals for services not performed at DSH-C. Incumbent is required to maintain professional communication with physicians, consultants, nurses, and other personnel.

Working Conditions
The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. All employees are required to have an annual health review and TB test or whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from symptoms indicating the presence of infection and are able to safely perform their essential job functions.
12-Hour shifts and other alternate schedules may be available based on current staffing needs.
Maximum of 960 hours per Fiscal Year (July 1 - June 30)
Candidate must be availiable at least two 10-hour days per week.
There are multiple vacancies for this classification. Positions filled may be assigned to any shift on any program.
This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).

Department Information
DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.

All state civil service employees are currently subject to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP). The PLP program reduces the monthly gross salary but provides PLO leave credits in lieu of pay. The amount of salary reduction depends on the classification and associated union Bargaining Unit (BU). The BU that represents this position is BU#16 - UNION of American Physician and Dentist (UAPD) . The expected salary reduction will be 4.62% of the salary identified above, and you will accrue approximately 8 hours of PLP each qualifying pay period. Incumbents will be subject to the PLP salary reduction and leave accruals through June 30, 2027.
