Optical Manager

Overview
The purpose of the Optical Manager position is to oversee the success of our optical shop, lab, and optician team. This is the role ultimately responsible for the success of sales, service, and production related to glasses, contacts, and lenses.

Job Details

  • Full-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate opticians, contact lens specialists, and lens lab technicians to maintain high performance and service standards.
  • Supervise daily operations, resolve staff conflicts, and conduct performance reviews or disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Provide ongoing training in optical dispensing, contact lens fitting, lens fabrication, and customer service best practices.
  • Manage lens lab activities, including inspecting lenses for quality, coordinating production schedules, and ensuring timely turnaround for eyewear orders.
  • Oversee dispensing of eyeglasses and contact lenses by opticians and specialists, including fittings, adjustments, and troubleshooting patient issues.
  • Ensure maintenance of lab equipment (e.g. cleaning, repairs, and safety compliance) to meet industry standards like ANSI and OSHA.
  • Control inventory of frames, lenses, contact lenses, and lab supplies; place orders and negotiate with vendors for cost-effective pricing.
  • Track stock levels, manage purchasing rotations, and analyze ROI to optimize profitability.
  • Verify work orders, invoices, and deliveries for accuracy in billing and production.
  • Ensure excellent patient service by assisting with frame/lens recommendations, handling complaints, and following up on recalls.
  • Process insurance billing, claims, and payments while maintaining accurate client records.
  • Monitor sales performance, develop revenue strategies, and generate reports on metrics like production goals and financials.
  • Oversee direct P&L responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of Arkansas Dispensing Optician credential is required.
  • Contact lens experience is required.
  • ABO and ABOC/NCLE certifications are preferred.
  • Seven years of optical shop experience is required.
  • Optical shop leadership experience is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and tactful during stressful situations.
