Position Summary
The primary task of the instructor at Southern Union State Community College is to instruct students in activities designed to promote intellectual growth. Essential duties and responsibilities of an instructor include commitments to students in the classroom, the teaching discipline, students outside the classroom, to the College and to the community. The instructor is subject to work at varied locations, including clinical sites, based on student and operational demand at any or all sites and locations served by the College.
Salary range: $46,590 - $94,363 for nine-month employment; Summer employment may be available dependent on enrollment ($14,384 - $29,184).
Benefits: Full time employees are entitled to the College's benefit package to include: PEEHIP, retirement, leave (sick and personal).
Start Date: August 2026
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize and instruct assigned courses in the day or evening on any Southern Union Campus, work site, or clinical site (week-end clinical may be required; must be able to work flexible hours)
  • Prepare and maintain current syllabus for courses teaching
  • Work with the dean and other faculty to develop, evaluate, and review curriculum to ensure maximum student competency
  • Participating in periodic review and revision of course materials
  • Submit budget and purchase requests for supplies and equipment as needed
  • Maintain records of students' clinical competency reports, and reviews clinical reports to see that students meet minimum qualifications to participate in the clinical environment
  • Assist in maintaining management procedures and documentation as required by accrediting bodies
  • Assist in implementing college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with college philosophy and procedures
  • Preparing and maintaining course outlines and objectives, instructing, and evaluating student progress
  • Participating in the accreditation and assessment process
  • Supporting the program director to assure effective program operations
  • Maintain appropriate work hours

Qualifications
MINIUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's in Applied Science in Radiologic Technology required Current license with the ARRT). A Bachelor's Degree MUST be earned within 24 months of hiring date.
  • Three (3) years full-time experience in the occupational area required.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred

Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
