Job description

Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Electrolyte R&D Scientist I/II to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solidstate rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fastpaced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. 

The Electrolyte R&D team specializes in research and development of solid-state electrolytes, including development of new materials, and improvements and modifications of production materials. This role will work alongside senior scientists to develop solid-state electrolytes.  

Job Duties:

  • Work closely with and under the direction of senior scientists to execute planned experimentation aimed at modifications and improvements to solid-state electrolytes. 
  • Performs material synthesis, characterization, data acquisition, and analysis. 
  • Communicate results and roadblocks to the broader team. 
  • Perform regular and required housekeeping such as lab and glassware cleaning. 
  • Always follow all facility and laboratory safety rules and regulations, ensuring safe handling and proper disposal of hazardous materials and equipment. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related degree from an accredited college/university. 
  • Experience in an academic or industrial lab environment 
  • Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.  
  • Experience in material characterization techniques is a plus (XRD, EIS, FTIR, DSC/TGA, Raman, SEM/EDS) 
  • Experience in synthetic chemistry. 
  • Experience with statistical and relevant software (design of experiments (D.O.E.) a plus).  
  • Knowledge of Li-ion battery materials optimization and synthesis is preferred 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.  

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk. 
  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Ability to work in gloveboxes and dry rooms 

Salary Range: $70,000 - $120,000/year
