NATURE OF WORK: Under direct supervision, the Childcare Program Assistant will provide exceptional childcare that enhances the lives of infants and toddlers while aiding Lead Teachers and the Director of Childcare/Preschool. The position will perform related functions for Mountain Munchkins ensuring the safety, care, and well-being of assigned children while conducting various childcare duties. Essential Functions DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct childcare and interacts with all preschools, toddler, and infant children; maintains and ensures the safety, care, and well-being of assigned children.

Open and close the facility when needed. Executes lesson plans and activities related to a specific theme. Conducts assessments and observations on designated children if applicable.

Assists in conducting parent teacher conferences if needed. Actively engages children with books, toys, and structured activities. Conducts circle time, arts and crafts, songs, and games.

Research and execute art projects, crafts and activities that relate to designated themes. Supervises, monitors children's play activities and is aware of each child's location. Coordinates and provides lunch and snacks for children; prepares infant bottles and foods.

Provides for the individual needs of children including changing diapers, feeding, napping, and dressing children. Cleans and maintains the facility and assists in providing a safe environment for children. Prepares daily report cards and/or other departmental documentation.

Practices a positive, age-appropriate discipline approach. Provides consistent, loving care to all children. Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct safety trainings.

Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team. Actively works to progress the Town's goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED is required. Previous childcare experience is preferred, but not required. Licenses/Certification(s): CPR and First Aid must be current and maintained Must complete Prevention of Shaken Baby, Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect, Prevention of SIDS, Standard Precautions, FEMA and Positive Guidance Strategies within 90 days of hire Must complete and maintain 15 hours of required continuing education and training courses as outlined in the Rules Regulating Child Care Centers Must complete at least five (5) courses of the candidate's choice through ContinuEd.com Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of: Principles and practices of childcare; rules, regulations, and standards governing childcare; childcare facility records and documentation; equipment and supplies relative to childcare; children's games and activities

Skill in: Performing a variety of childcare functions; maintaining compliance with regulations and standards governing childcare; providing for the safety and well-being of assigned children; engaging children in structured activities; demonstrating quick reflexes and responses; demonstrating patience; positive attitude; focusing on many children at one time. Environmental Factors: Busy, sometimes chaotic environment. Work is performed primarily indoors with some work performed outdoors in varying types of weather.

Must be able to work some nights and holidays. Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and taste or smell.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to chemicals in relation to cleaning facility.
