To thrive as a Full Time Python GIS Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, a solid understanding of geospatial concepts, and experience with GIS platforms, often supported by a relevant degree in computer science, geography, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, and libraries like GeoPandas or GDAL, as well as version control systems like Git, is typically required. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills that set top candidates apart. These skills ensure robust, scalable geospatial solutions and seamless collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What are some common challenges Full Time Python GIS Developers face when integrating geospatial data from multiple sources?

Full Time Python GIS Developers often encounter challenges when integrating geospatial data from various sources due to differences in data formats, coordinate reference systems, and data quality. Ensuring compatibility and accuracy requires a strong understanding of libraries like GDAL, GeoPandas, and Shapely, as well as best practices for data cleaning and transformation. Close collaboration with data engineers, cartographers, and other team members is often necessary to resolve inconsistencies and produce reliable geospatial analyses.

What does a Full Time Python GIS Developer do?

Job description

In a world of possibilities, pursue one with endless opportunities. Imagine Next!At Parsons, you can imagine a career where you thrive, work with exceptional people, and be yourself. Guided by our leadership vision of valuing people, embracing agility, and fostering growth, we cultivate an innovative culture that empowers you to achieve your full potential. Unleash your talent and redefine what's possible.

Job Description:

Parsons is looking for a talented GIS Digital Delivery Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will lead GIS-enabled digital delivery for infrastructure programs-integrating engineering and design data from Autodesk (Revit, Civil 3D, Autodesk Construction Cloud/ACC, Forma) and/or Bentley environments into enterprise GIS workflows and databases. You will help define and enforce GIS & Digital Delivery standards across projects, enabling repeatable delivery, reliable data governance, and high-quality spatial products for client operations and capital programs. Must be able to work full-time onsite at the client site in Dallas, TX.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead spatial digital delivery across infrastructure projects-owning GIS delivery approach, integration strategy, and quality expectations across teams and subcontractors.

  • Manage and analyze spatial data using Esri ArcGIS Pro and support solutions that include ArcGIS Enterprise/Online.

  • Integrate and reconcile engineering data (models, alignments, surfaces, CAD/BIM attributes) from Autodesk and/or Bentley systems into GIS databases and digital delivery workflows.

  • Define, develop, and enforce GIS and Digital Delivery standards (schema, naming, coordinate system practices, data validation, metadata, versioning, and publishing) across projects and databases.

  • Create and maintain databases and systems to support geospatial solutions and repeatable delivery.

  • Partner with engineering, BIM/VDC, and client stakeholders to align deliverables to program requirements and enable a common operational picture (e.g., digital delivery/CDE-to-GIS alignment).

  • Troubleshoot workflow, system, and peripheral issues to keep delivery moving and reduce risk to schedule and quality.

  • Communicate results of assigned tasks in writing and document work performed on projects (standards, decisions, processes, and lessons learned).

  • Provide technical leadership-mentoring GIS analysts/developers and coordinating delivery across multiple workstreams to produce consistent outcomes.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Extensive, hands-on expertise with Esri ArcGIS Pro in production delivery environments (not just academic use).
  • Demonstrated experience integrating engineering data into GIS from Autodesk or Bentley platforms (e.g., CAD/BIM/Design model data GIS feature classes, services, and governed databases).
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and enforce GIS/Digital Delivery standards across programs, projects, and enterprise databases (governance-minded and consistent).
  • Strong understanding of GIS industry practices, data management, and quality control/assurance.
  • Ability to design and maintain databases and other database formats used in GIS delivery.
  • Ability to independently assess data anomalies, workflow issues, and software problems-and take appropriate steps to resolve them.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in basic office productivity tools (MS Word/Excel).
  • Must be able to work full-time onsite at the client site in Dallas, TX.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Aviation program experience (airports, airfield capital programs, facilities/asset management, GIS for operations/maintenance).
  • Project management experience (scope/schedule/budget coordination; managing technical delivery teams and dependencies).
  • Surveying or reality capture experience (GNSS, terrestrial scanning, mobile mapping, photogrammetry/drone data) and understanding how those datasets flow into GIS and engineering environments.
  • Experience integrating GIS with broader program systems to support a "system of systems" view (data services, dashboards, integrations).
  • Experience developing repeatable workflows/automation (e.g., Python/SQL/ETL concepts) to scale delivery and reduce manual effort.
  • Experience with Common Data Environment (CDE) concepts and multi-system integration patterns.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Engineering, related discipline (or equivalent work experience)
  • 10+ years of related experience delivering GIS for infrastructure and leading/owning delivery standards and workflows across multiple projects.
