Job description

Department: Cardio Non-Invasive

Shift: Days

Daily Work Times:7:00am-3:30pm

Scheduled Biweekly Hours: 80

Position Summary: 

Responsible for the delivery of nursing care within the assigned unit scope of practice following hospital policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, standards of care, and standards of practice.

Core responsibilities of a stresstesting nurse

  • Patient assessment - Performs a focused pretest assessment: vitals, symptoms, cardiac history, medications, and contraindications. Ensures the patient is clinically appropriate for testing.
  • IV access - Starts and manages IV lines for pharmacologic stress agents (e.g., Lexiscan, Dobutamine) and emergency medications.
  • Medication administration - Safely administers stress agents and monitors for adverse reactions.
  • Continuous monitoring - Monitors ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and patient symptoms throughout the test.
  • Emergency readiness - Recognizes arrhythmias, ischemic changes, hypotension, or distress. Initiates ACLS protocols if needed.
  • Patient education - Explains the procedure, expectations, and posttest instructions.
  • Documentation - Documents vitals, symptoms, medications, and any interventions in real time.
  • Collaboration with providers - Works closely with cardiologists, APPs, and technologists to ensure safe and accurate testing.

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 
  • Experience in a specialty area will be considered. Experience specific to the unit/position may be required to maintain overall competency level of unit, as required by regulatory agency.
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification as Healthcare Provider.
  • Within six months of hire into department, ACLS required for RNs in Critical Care, Emergency, Endoscopy, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Intensive Care Unit and Step-Down, Telemetry Floats. NRP required for RNs in Labor and Delivery; and PALS required for RNs in Pediatrics; PALS and TNCC within one year for the Emergency Department.

            Preferred:

  • One year of professional nursing experience.
  • ACLS preferred in other units.
