Unit Overview

The Oncology Unit consists of 28 beds, focusing primarily on the care of adult cancer patients requiring inpatient treatments. This unit operates 24/7 and is equipped to handle inpatient hospice needs as well as Oncology Medical-Surgical Telemetry requirements.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse plays a vital role as part of an interdisciplinary team, consisting of both licensed and unlicensed caregivers, ensuring that patients, families, and significant others receive personalized, high-quality, and safe care. This role operates within a clinical setting managed by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported by our Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by our Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practices. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and adhere to the nursing standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics established by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, the individual is expected to advocate for the patient’s voice while adhering to system policies and supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Exemplary Practice and Outcomes:
    • Conducts the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical care, utilizing evidence-based practices and critical thinking to ensure individualized care.
    • Delivers relationship-based, patient-centered care that respects population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and cultural diversity.
    • Engages with patients and significant others appropriately, utilizing methods such as bedside shift reports and interdisciplinary rounds to keep them informed and focused on their care goals.
    • Adheres to current clinical practice standards.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration:
    • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting a professional care delivery model through inclusive communication methods.
    • Demonstrates teamwork by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner that encourages the recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
    • Engages in performance improvement initiatives, supporting research and shared governance at all levels.
  • Professional Development and Initiative:
    • Completes all required professional competency assessments and ongoing education.
    • Acts as a preceptor or mentor for other nurses and staff to ensure a qualified future workforce and foster a healthy work environment.
  • Evidence-Based Practice and Research:
    • Promotes evidence-based practices and nursing research, participating in value analysis for patient care products.
    • Adheres to all organizational policies and clinical competencies, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
    • Engages in data collection and formulates relevant clinical questions to enhance evidence-based practice.
  • Resources and Support:
    • Plans proactively for patient care across the continuum while providing direct care.
    • Contributes to the development of protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and the healthcare team.
    • Ensures efficient use of human and material resources.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Compliance with all organizational policies, standards of work, and code of conduct is expected.

Education and Certification Requirements
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • RN - Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - Multi-state Compact required.
    • BLS - Basic Life Support or equivalent certification required upon hire.
Experience and Skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of RN experience required; direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English; basic computer skills are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with excellent customer service abilities.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies with composure and respect.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and critical thinking skills.
