Job description

Rando Productions, Inc. – North Hollywood, CA

Full-Time | In-Person
Entertainment / Themed Entertainment Experience Preferred

Rando Productions, Inc. is a North Hollywood-based design, engineering, and specialty fabrication company serving the themed entertainment, live entertainment, attractions, special events, television, and related industries.

We are looking for an experienced SKILLED Welder / Fabricator to join our fabrication team. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in building high-quality custom, one-off fabricated assemblies and enjoys working on projects that are considerably more interesting than repetitive production welding.

Our work ranges from show action equipment, animated props, structural assemblies, platforms, special effects equipment, mechanical systems, scenic structures, and custom machinery to complex equipment for major theme parks and entertainment clients.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate custom steel and aluminum assemblies from drawings and shop sketches.
  • MIG and TIG welding of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum as required.
  • Accurately measure, cut, drill, fit, tack, weld, and finish fabricated components.
  • Read and understand fabrication drawings, mechanical drawings, and weld symbols.
  • Layout and fit components prior to welding.
  • Fabricate using structural tubing, pipe, plate, sheet metal, and miscellaneous shapes.
  • Operate common fabrication equipment including:
    • Band saws
    • Cold saws
    • Drill presses
    • Ironworkers
    • Grinders
    • Sanders
    • Plasma cutting equipment
    • Other standard fabrication shop equipment
  • Perform accurate fit-up of assemblies and maintain dimensional tolerances.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, mechanical designers, and other fabricators.
  • Assist with assembly, testing, installation, and modification of equipment when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Produce work that meets Rando Productions' quality standards and client requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of professional welding/fabrication experience preferred.
  • Strong MIG welding skills required.
  • TIG welding experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience welding steel, stainless steel, and aluminum is highly desirable.
  • Must be comfortable fabricating from detailed drawings.
  • Strong understanding of measurements, tolerances, layout, and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and solve fabrication problems in the shop.
  • Must have a strong eye for fit, finish, and workmanship.
  • Ability to work on both large structural assemblies and smaller precision fabricated components.
  • Must be reliable, organized, and able to work as part of a team.

Entertainment Industry Experience Preferred

Previous experience in any of the following is especially desirable:

  • Themed entertainment / theme park fabrication
  • Show action equipment
  • Animated figures or props
  • Scenic fabrication
  • Live entertainment / touring
  • Special effects equipment
  • Museum or exhibit fabrication
  • Film / television fabrication
  • Custom machinery
  • Aerospace or other high-quality specialty fabrication

Experience working to AWS welding standards and entertainment/theme park fabrication specifications is a plus.

What We Are Looking For

This is not a repetitive production welding position.

We are looking for a fabricator who enjoys figuring out how things go together and understands that custom entertainment projects often require a combination of fabrication skill, mechanical ability, problem-solving, and craftsmanship.

Our projects change regularly. One week you may be building a structural platform or mechanical frame, and the next you may be fabricating components for an animated figure, moving show element, special effect, or custom piece of machinery.

Attention to detail and pride in workmanship are extremely important.

Work Location

Rando Productions, Inc.
North Hollywood, California

This is an in-person shop position and is not remote.

Occasional overtime, weekend work, or field installation work may be required depending on project schedules.

Compensation

Competitive hourly compensation based on experience, welding ability, fabrication skills, and entertainment-industry experience. $29 to$35/hr

Applicants with extensive themed entertainment, show fabrication, or specialty fabrication experience are encouraged to apply.

To Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief description of your welding/fabrication experience

Photos or examples of previous fabrication work are encouraged.
