The Polymer Process Engineer is responsible for understanding polymer materials and manufacturing processes, and contributing this knowledge in support of product and process development, performance testing, quality assurance, and continual improvement. Specifically, this role will have responsibility for product development and manufacturing support in connection with injection molding, monofilament extrusion, and pultrusion processes. The position will work on-site 5 days a week at our Farmingdale, Long Island, NY headquarters.

Compensation: 

We offer a competitive total compensation package. The base salary range for this role is $90,000-$150,000 and is commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in accordance with company policy.

Responsibilities
  • Manage technical operations of injection molding, extrusion, and pultrusion processes
  • Raw material selection, compounding, qualification, and inventory management all the various products defined above.
  • Review and provide input to part drawings, specifications, and part tolerancing
  • Oversee mold and die design, set-up, qualification, maintenance and storage
  • Plan the creation of a mold making & repair facility
  • Facilitate equipment upgrades, modifications, and repairs
  • Create work instructions, carry out operator training, implement QC procedures
  • Coordinate technical problem solving, root cause analysis, and continual improvement activities
  • Implement in-process data acquisition, process capability assessments, and Statistical Process Control
  • Carry out product performance and acceptance testing
  • Manage external vendors as necessary
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years direct experience with injection molding, extrusion, and/or pultrusion materials and processes.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office, Excel, statistical analysis software such as Minitab, and 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks.
  • Ability to communicate and report conclusions clearly and concisely.
  • Specific knowledge in polymer structure, properties, compounding, processing, and quality control.
  • Expert understanding of polymer characterization, standardized test methods and equipment.
  • Review and provide input to mold and die designs, mold flow, finite element, and thermal analysis reports.
  • Six Sigma, Lean, and Total Quality Management knowledge desirable.
  • General skills in root cause analysis, continual improvement, and quality assurance.
  • Formal project management skills desirable.
