Job description

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in conjunction with Indiana University Health Medical Group is seeking a full-time Plastic Surgeon with a focused interest in general plastic surgery and complex wound care to join our growing faculty. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to develop a robust reconstructive and wound care practice within a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment. The ideal candidate will have broad expertise in general plastic and reconstructive surgery, including complex acute and chronic wound management and soft tissue reconstruction. Fellowship training is welcomed but not required. This faculty position emphasizes excellence in clinical care, education, and academic contribution, with flexibility to tailor the role based on clinical interests and career goals. The successful candidate will contribute to multidisciplinary care pathways in collaboration with Wound Care, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Trauma Surgery, General Surgery, Infectious Disease, and Rehabilitation Medicine, supporting both inpatient and outpatient wound care programs across the health system.

Key Responsibilities: 

Clinical Care
Provide comprehensive general plastic and reconstructive surgical care, with a significant focus on acute and chronic wound management and complex soft tissue coverage and reconstruction. Responsibilities include collaboration with Wound Care leadership to support clinical operations, protocol development, quality improvement initiatives, and multidisciplinary care pathways. Opportunities exist to contribute to strategic growth of complex wound care across the health system, mentor advanced practice providers and trainees in wound management, and help standardize evidence-based practices in complex wound care and limb salvage.

Participate in shared call coverage within the Division of Plastic Surgery.

Primary clinical activities will take place at tertiary care centers within the Indiana University Health system, including IU Health North, IU Health University Hospital, IU Health Methodist Hospital, and the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center. Outpatient care will be delivered through affiliated specialty and wound care clinics in suburban and urban locations, with access to advanced practice provider support and multidisciplinary services.

Education
Teach and mentor medical students, integrated and independent Plastic Surgery residents, and fellows.
Participate in structured educational conferences, wound care teaching, skills labs, and operative instruction.
Serve as a role model for professionalism, teamwork, and excellence in patient-centered care.

Scholarship
Engage in clinical outcomes research, quality improvement, health services research, or educational scholarship related to general plastic surgery and wound care, aligned with individual interests.

Collaboration & Service
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including Wound Care, Vascular Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Rehabilitation Services.
Participate in institutional and divisional service activities.
Opportunities to engage in outreach or global surgery initiatives, if desired.

Qualifications
MD or DO degree.
Board-certified or board-eligible in Plastic Surgery.
Demonstrated commitment to education and collaborative patient care.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment to inclusive excellence in clinical and academic environments.

Appointment & Rank
Academic appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Track will be determined based on qualifications and career goals.
