Job Title: Extrusion Operator

Job Description

The Extrusion Operator works on extrusion machine lines in a food-safe plastic manufacturing environment, ensuring production runs smoothly and addressing minor mechanical issues as they arise. This role includes operating extrusion equipment, monitoring the extrusion process, and performing quality inspections on finished products to maintain high standards of safety and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate extrusion machines and related equipment to produce plastic products according to production specifications.
  • Monitor machine lines and the extrusion process, making adjustments as needed to ensure consistent quality and efficient output.
  • Inspect finished products for defects and quality issues, using calipers and other measurement tools to verify dimensions and compliance with standards.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting and corrective actions on machines to resolve operational issues and minimize downtime.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety procedures in a food-safe manufacturing environment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and production documentation to set up and run extrusion processes correctly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, recognizing that the environment can be hot and occasionally dirty, especially in summer months.
  • Use basic computer systems to enter production data, track output, and complete required documentation.
  • Operate a forklift as needed to move materials, finished goods, and supplies around the production area.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to support efficient production schedules and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

  • 2–3 years of machine operating experience, preferably in plastics extrusion.
  • Hands-on experience with extrusion machines, extrusion molding, and plastic extrusion processes.
  • Ability to stand, push, pull, lift, and walk for a 12-hour shift in a physically demanding environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for data entry and production tracking.
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely within a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food-safe manufacturing requirements.
  • Experience with inspection procedures, including using calipers and other measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and production documentation.
  • Experience in manufacturing industry, particularly in production and molding operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a plastics manufacturing environment, ideally in extrusion.
  • Familiarity with plastic production processes and molding operations.
  • Comfort working in a hot and sometimes dirty environment, especially during summer months.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including day and night schedules.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a production team.

The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $54080.00/yr.
