Job description

DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, teaches one or more classes in the field of music to students in grades 7 through 12, assists in other school programs as assigned, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in the field of music, which may include general, instrumental or choral music to secondary students utilizing the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum
  • Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt curriculum to the needs of the students with varying intellectual abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
  • Provides instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about music
  • Recruits students to receive instruction in playing standard band and orchestra instruments
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment
  • Instructs students in proper care and use of instruments and equipment, organizes storage areas and controls use of materials and instruments to prevent loss or abuse
  • Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding and prepares progress reports
  • Selects and requisitions instructional materials, books, etc., and maintains inventory records
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress
  • Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities
  • Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities
CREDENTIAL:
  • Valid California Credential or license authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned
  • Valid English Learner Certification
  • Verification of NCLB Highly Qualified compliance
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree, including all courses to meet credential requirements

Comments and Other Information
This position is for immediate placement and is located at Hesperia High School.
We operate on a modified traditional calendar with school beginning in August and ending the end of May.
INCENTIVES for CREDENTIALED APPLICANTS:
- $5,000 signing bonus
- Placement on our salary schedule commensurate with your current salary OR credit for years of full-time experience, whichever is higher
- Moving expense stipend not to exceed $2,500 for candidates who must relocate to accept a position. (50 miles or more; Proof of relocation may be required)
INCENTIVES FOR APPLICANTS NOT FULLY CREDENTIALED, but are Intern Eligible:
- $2,500 signing bonus

The candidate must sign an agreement acknowledging that he/she may be required to serve in the position for not less than five (5) years. Failure to meet this requirement may result in a payroll deduction of the signing bonus and/or moving expenses.
We do offer a benefit package that covers the employee and any dependents -- our teachers do make a monthly contribution towards the cost.
