Description
Shift: Day shift, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM (Manager is open to flexible start times such as 8:00 or 8:30 AM)
Weekly hours: 40 hours/week (5 days per week)
The Registered Dietitian (RD) provides comprehensive nutritional services to in-center hemodialysis and/or home dialysis patients to maximize their nutritional status and improve clinical outcomes. As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team (IDT), the RD assesses, monitors, and educates patients on the importance of diet in managing chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Nutritional Assessment & Care Planning: Perform initial, annual, and comprehensive nutritional assessments/reassessments for all assigned patients, specifically identifying those at high nutritional risk.
  • Patient Education & Counseling: Educate patients and caregivers on renal diets (low sodium, potassium, phosphorus, and fluid management). Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to assist patients in making positive behavioral changes.
  • Lab Data Analysis: Review monthly, quarterly, and annual laboratory results (e.g., Kt/V, serum albumin, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, anemia parameters) and translate these into understandable, actionable dietary advice.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participate in monthly patient care conferences (PCC), QAPI (Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement) meetings, and clinic rounds.
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT): Collaborate with the nephrologist to recommend and manage nutrient supplements, vitamin therapies, and renal-specific medications (e.g., phosphate binders).
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations (CMS, HIPAA, OSHA) as well as company-specific clinical policies.

Requirements
*** Candidates should have at least two years of clinical experience, and experience working with dialysis patients is highly preferred.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
  • Registration/Licensure: NY State Licensed Registered Dietitian (RD) credential with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2+ years of clinical nutrition experience is required.
    • Previous dialysis/renal experience is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients.
    • Proficiency in medical nutrition therapy for complex, chronically ill patients.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR).
  • Experience with PD (Peritoneal Dialysis) or HHD (Home Hemodialysis).
  • Experience with QAPI projects.
