Job description

VCA South Hadley Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Supervisor (CVT or experienced VA considered) to lead and support our nursing team.

This role calls for a leader who is equal parts clinical expert and people-first manager - someone who leads with empathy, communicates clearly, and knows how to bring out the best in a team.

The ideal candidate has a strong track record of building trust, strengthening collaboration, and creating a workplace where technicians feel heard, supported, and set up to succeed. If you thrive on strong team leadership, mentoring with patience, and leading by example, we want to hear from you.

Schedule: Full time, weekend rotation required.

Compensation: $27.00 - $32.00 / year based on skill set, licensure and experience.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide direct, hands-on leadership and mentorship for the CVT/VA team, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management
  • Build and maintain nursing schedules, and coverage plans that support consistent, high-quality patient care
  • Lead regular one-on-ones and check-ins focused on communication, trust, and team cohesion
  • Model calm, steady leadership that helps the team navigate change and grow stronger together

Clinical Standards & Patient Care

  • Establish and uphold clinical protocols and nursing care standards across the hospital
  • Oversee patient monitoring, treatment administration, anesthesia support, and surgical assistance
  • Ensure compliance with drug handling, controlled substance logging, and inventory control policies
  • Partner closely with the medical director and veterinary team to maintain consistent, high-quality care

Training & Professional Development

  • Design and lead ongoing training and CE opportunities to keep the team sharp and engaged
  • Serve as a clinical coach and mentor for CVTs, VAs, and student externs
  • Support technicians pursuing specialty certifications and career growth

Culture & Communication

  • Foster open, honest communication and a collaborative team environment
  • Actively work to strengthen morale, trust, and engagement across the nursing team
  • Serve as a steady, approachable point of contact for staff concerns and team dynamics

Operations & Compliance

  • Monitor team retention, satisfaction, and workload balance, recommending improvements as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable veterinary practice acts, OSHA, and safety regulations
