JOB TITLE:
Lecturer, Assistant
JOB PURPOSE:
The Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering seeks a full-time Academic Lecturer to support undergraduate and graduate education in petroleum, energy, and related engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will contribute primarily through teaching, student mentoring, curriculum development, and service activities that support the department's educational mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Energy and Petroleum Engineering.
- Deliver instruction in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online formats.
- Develop and update course materials to align with industry needs and accreditation requirements.
- Participate in assessment and continuous improvement activities associated with ABET accreditation.
- Contribute to curriculum development and program enhancement initiatives.
- Support senior design projects and experiential learning activities.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
- Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to maintain curriculum relevance.
- Assist with student recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts.

Appointment Details
- Non-tenure track Academic Lecturer position.
- Multi-year appointment subject to performance and funding.
- Primary responsibilities focus on teaching and service.
- Expected teaching load: 15 credit hours per academic year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Energy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated teaching, training, or industry experience relevant to energy and petroleum engineering.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience Evaluation
Minimum experience requirements are evaluated on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis. Relevant part-time experience will be prorated based on hours worked. For example, two years working an average of 20 hours per week is equivalent to approximately one year of full-time experience.
Applicants must include the average hours worked per week for all current and previous positions. Failure to provide this information may affect the evaluation of qualifications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Industry experience in upstream, midstream, energy transition, geothermal, CCUS, hydrogen, drilling, production, reservoir engineering, or related fields.
- Previous university-level teaching experience.
- Experience with online course delivery.
- Experience supervising student projects and capstone design teams.
