Job description

Work Shift: 1am - 9:30am Monday - Friday with Alternating Saturdays.

The Target Pay for this position is $16.20 an hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Parasitology Laboratory Technician 1 performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with

  • Sets up, runs, reads, and releases labtests.
  • Meet all minimum department requirements for Para and Giardia reading/releasingrates.
  • Exercises judgment in evaluating and reportingresults.
  • Performs equipment maintenanceactivities.
  • Awareness of quality control andcalibration.
  • Assists lead or supervisor with rechecks asdirected.
  • Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
  • May be cross trained to perform other duties, such as performing less complex tests, including duties performed by Para Aide.
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, andcooperation.
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn throughexperience.
  • Performs other duties asassigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Science degree or vet technician experience is preferred. Prior lab experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, Parasitology procedures, equipment, and familiarity with a microscope preferred

  • Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-pacedenvironment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of ateam
  • The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

Working Conditions

  • Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2hours.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately andefficiently.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, orcrouch
  • Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20lbs.
  • The ability to observe details at closerange
  • Extended hours may beneeded
  • Sitting for extended periods oftime
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE
  • Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments
  • Work under close to moderatesupervision.
  • Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
