Position Summary
The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is one of 51 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center's mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach. Within two of Lineberger's research programs (Cancer Prevention and Control, and Cancer Epidemiology), over 70 faculty researchers conduct groundbreaking and nationally recognized population science research. 
The MaTRIC Project Manager position will manage efforts for 2-3 federally or privately funded cancer-related, population sciences projects. The position is part of the Lineberger Cancer Center's MaTRIC (Managing Teams, Research and Integrated Coordination) Program, which provides two services: (1) centralized project management services for Population Science researchers; and (2) best practices and training on effective project and financial management for research projects at UNC.
In its study management (primary) role, the position will serve a critical role and act as the primary point of contact in the communication and coordination among internal study partners and assure the timely implementation of research activities related to the project. Responsibilities of the project manager will include, but are not limited to: establishing study and grant application timelines; assisting with grant and project budget forecasting; coordinating research meetings and retreats; conducting day-to-day project-related operations; coordinating data curation, management, and analysis; assisting in the grant renewal and project report submissions for the funder; maintaining collaborative partnerships with participants and research partners; managing project sub-contracts; and hiring and supervising project staff.
In its secondary role, the position will assist with implementing the MaTRIC program and infrastructure. The position will create 'how to' resource guides and templates for interacting with Lineberger's finance and administrative offices and other UNC entities (IRB, OSR, OSP, Privacy Office, etc.). The position will coordinate trainings for early investigators and research staff on effective project and financial management at Lineberger as well as provide on-going technical assistance (in coordination with other UNC entities, as relevant).
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's or Bachelor's and 0-2 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The position requires a minimum of three years' experience and demonstrated capacity to independently manage complex public health research projects. This position requires strong public health research skills, such as reviewing scientific literature, creating data collection instruments, managing databases, administrating IRB applications, analyzing data and interpreting results. The ideal candidate must be able to handle multiple ongoing project activities with attention to detail; and prioritizes activities to ensure that work gets done in a timely manner. 
The candidate must possess strong people management skills, including the ability to lead projects, working in teams and independently. The ideal candidate must be comfortable interfacing with a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior faculty researchers, university administrators, clinical providers, community agency partners, and students. The candidate must also be comfortable working with diverse populations. 
The position requires strong financial management skills, including forecasting expenses, developing and managing research budgets, and monitoring budget expenditures. The position requires experience with Microsoft Office 365 (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams). Finally, the candidate must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with supervising research staff and/or interns is desired.
